I have a 1969 IH 444 i just put new injectors and injection pump on. I never owned the tractor before i did all this work. When the tractor gets under load like climbing up a hill in high third gear it really smokes (black) and losses engine rpm. When not climbing a hill the tractor runs like a top. Could it be this is just to much of a pull on the tractor? It does have a fornt end loader on it also. I tried turning the pump a little but only made it worse.

Any suggestions?

You already had black smoke that indicates it is over fueled. Adding more will only make it worse.

Check the air cleaner to make sure you are getting as much air as possible into the engine. After that it may be injectors, injection pump, or timing. There may be other mechanical problems that could cause similar symptoms.

I have had mine for 17 years and done nothing to the motor. Run a 530 Hesston baler, bush hog, etc. no problem. But in third high she will put out some smoke under a load and I don't have a loader. Mine is a good old tractor I just don't push her in the high range.

The IH 444 is only 38 PTO HP. They also had a real fast high gear. So it pulling down going up a hill is NORMAL!!! Don't turn the fuel screw up. The IH 444 transmission was not that heavy to start with. Couple of friends have them. They have had transmission issues.

The IH 444 is IH version of the MF 35 or 135. These tractors with a loader going down the road are going to PULL!!!
