Looking at new small square balers, it does not look like any have the option of 1000 RPM PTO. Do you guys have ideas on this?
 
A AGCO dealer told me, that his largest mowing customer, wanted 540 even in his 15ft batwings. Pulled them with 125hp tractors. Said they lasted longer. and had less vibration. Vic
 
Thats big hp to put on a small square baler, I don't think there is a market for it given the balers only need about 30-60 hp. You could put one of those reduction gearboxes on I suppose?
 
Could buy another tractor, keep one on each implement, but that might break your budget. Some of the older Deere balers were available with 1000 rpm drive, it was just a chain and sprocket set to reduce rpm to 540. Third choice would be to use a stub adapter and run the tractor at lower engine rpm but you would need to be careful not accidently over speed things.
 
I've lived with that for about 8 years now. My mower is 1000rpm, everything else 540. My main tractor is a 4010 John Deere. Luckily, changing pto's is simply removal of four bolts and sticking the other shaft in. I always thought it would be nice to have both shafts available like with (some of)the Internationals. Never in my life have I seen a small square baler with 1000 rpm. I finally (after many years) was able to purchase another tractor that is solely dedicated to the baler. 4010 stays on the mower.
 
Looks like we will just have to keep changing PTO shafts. The tractor is a 4020. The baler does not need the horsepower, but it is real hilly, so pulling the baler and wagon need HP and tractor weight.
 
Never have seen a 1000 rpm baler myself either, wouldn't be surprised if none were actually sold, but the sprocket and chain reduction is shown in the back of my old 24t operators manual. It mounted on front of the baler. No reason someone couldn't fabricate something similar.
