750 john Deere Tractor

I have a 650 which is the next smaller 2 cylinder unit. I wanted a 750 but couldn't pass this one up because of the price. The 650 and the 750 is one heck of a good tractor. They are good tough tractors and cheap on fuel. Yes the 750 should have a live p.t.o. That was the main reason I wanted it instead of the 650, but since this was offered to me for less than 1/2 the price of a 750 and only had 412 hrs on it I bought it instead of the 750. They are both Yanmars that have the John Deere name and paint on it. Look on the back of the tractor and there should be a Yanmar tag on it. I have put over 1,000 more hours on mine and did have to have the injection pump rebuilt once. Never spray it with ether to crank it. I popped the head off a piston once and had to rebuild it.

I had an IH loader on mine for many years, but took it off when I bought a backhoe/loader unit.

I have a power steering unit for sale to fit the 650& 750 if you ever need one. .

(quoted from post at 17:53:15 09/13/13) G'Day,
Anyone have one of these? any good? do they have live pto?
thanks
Hound

My 750 at work has a 2 stage clutch. Push the pedal half way down the tractor stops, push it all the way and the pto stops. Not as handy as a fully separate system but still considered "live" I guess

The JD 750 could have live PTO or not. It was an option. Also power steering was an option. You need to look at it to see what it has on it for options.

The PTO would be a two stage clutch live PTO. So you should be able to feel the PTO clutch about half way down. IF you can't feel the second stage it could be none live PTO.

Some general rules of thumb on the JD 650/750s.

IF it has factory power steering it should have LIVE PTO. That was an order package that they came together.

IF it is 2WD without power steering it usually would not have live PTO.

MFWD ones just about all had power steering and live PTO.

They are a good dependable tractor. They are pretty fuel efficient.

Gene what would you need for that PS rig? I'm getting a bit tired of wrassling with the steering on my 750.

Email me at pfoxyATyahooDOTcom if you would.

Thanks.

thanks all.
it is 4 wheel drive, I'll double check the power steering option. The seller emailed me back since I posted, it doesn't have a 3pt hitch, which I'd like though. and he says its not live pto-which I'd like.

I failed to see how a 750 can have live pto since this is the only type clutch listed in parts catalog.

I put a ton of hours on a 83-85(?) Yanmar built John Deere 750 with 4-wheel drive, and I can tell you that it did NOT have a live PTO, nor did it have the 1/2 clutch setup.

I've got a 950...3 pt but no power steering.
The tractor and engine combination is bullet proof. Mine always started in the coldest weather and is amazingly skimpy on fuel burn.
All this and I'm an Oliver guy!
I inquired about putting power steering on mine and my JD Dealer said nothing available anymore.
The ONLY live PTO offered was the two stage foot clutch..

Great little tractors. The 650 & 750 never did have a live pto. They do have a built in over running clutch. PS was always an option.
The 850 & 950 after certain years had live pto. This must be what is confusing some.
The 750 rated at only 18 hp will actually do 24 or 25 on a dyno. With 4x4 they will really pull. If you want a gear drive tractor of that size they are hard to beat. They will do the work of a larger tractor so don't let the size deter you.
