So, I watched this falls repeat of the Ken Burns 6 part miniseries, The National Parks Americas Best Idea, AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT and was wondering what others thought. As some know, I'm an avid RV traveler and have visited many of the great parks (some as many as 3 times, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Crater Lake, Mt Rainier, Canyonlands, Arches, Capitol Reef, Rocky Mtns Smoky Mtn etc etc) AND SUCH ARE ABOUT THE FINEST MOST BEAUTIFUL MOST PEACEFUL PLACES IVE EVER BEEN TO...

ZION a place of peace and tranquility

The miniseries is the next best thing to actually being there in my opinion if you like the parks and their history

Visit them if you ever get a chance, DO NOT MISS Many Glacier Lodge

So which parks are these????

Don't know which is which but my goodness those are beautiful pictures. I appreciate you posting them. Some day I plan to make it to alot of those parks.

Great pictures. I am leaving for Bryce, and Zion National Parks tomorrow, with the wife, and our dog. I got started on this RV traveling a little late in life at 70, I'm 71 now. The good Lord willing I plan to see a little more of this great country in the comming years. Stan

4 is Yellowstone, I think. Are there geysers at any other parks?

Was at Crater Lake twice- October, and June, IIRC. It was snowing both times.

I see crater lake, yellerstone, the grand tetons, glacier, rocky mtn, and dare I say Banf (but I know that's not correct), and not in that order..... :)

I've been to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons twice. Rocky mountain, Hot Springs, and Smoky Mountains. When my boys were still in school we tried to go somewhere every year. We haven't been in over 10 years Since they are grown and gas is 3x as expensive plus it's just hard to leave the farm. Someday I hope to get to Glacier and Grand Canyon And possibly a few more.
The grand Canyon reminds me that a preacher, an artist and a rancher were looking over the grand canyon. The preacher remarked how great God's power was. The artist said how beautiful that would be on canvas. The rancher said "that would be a he[[ of a place for a cow to have a calf"

The time we were there and thinking of visiting you, it was like July 4 and the road just got opened that day due to snow

The gov't, Federal or state, should not own one acre, one square foot of land they don't need for military bases or public structures. End of story.

I just got back from a three week solo motorcycle ride and saw every one of those places except for Crater Lake. By far, the best vacation I've ever done. I love traveling by bike.

I will say if you've ever seen Glacier, you'll throw rocks at Yellowstone.

Tubacase is the winner he got 100% wowwwwwww

I tell people, if you can only visit one park, make it Glacier, but hey Yellowstone aint no pushover

John T

I've been to all of them except Crater Lake. Rocky Mountain was first, about 60 years ago. Glacier, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone all for the first time in 1982 just after I moved to Great Falls MT.

I worked two summers in Yellowstone when I was in college. Didn"t make any money but sure had a lot of fun. Only got caught swimming in the hot springs once.

Yeah, the national parks are beautiful.

But unless they're making a profit, look for the politicians in power to try to close them all soon.

So if you want to see 'em, don't put it off.

"It doesn't" You Do. Just letting you know they are yours to enjoy, not some snot with no trespassing signs and more money than 99% of everybody. I am happy to go there and enjoy our forests with freedom and privacy. Do not wish for that which is infinitely worse. Jim

John, I always knew you wuz a closet tree hugger.

Be careful about spending too much time hiking in the wilderness. It can lead to other undesirable behavior, such as singing "Kumbaya" around a campfire, smoking certain medicinal herbs and voting for Ralph Nader.

For those who don't know if you are 62 you can get a life time pass to all the national parks for $10. You can buy one at the entrance to any national park.

I have a picture of my wife in almost the exact same spot at Crater Lake except she is wrapped up in a sleeping bag and it is snowing - July 7 about 15 years ago.

We were camping and climbing at Smith Rocks in central Oregon. It was so hot we had to be off the rock by about 11am. Easily 34-38*Celcius. We left Smith at about 11:30. I"m not sure what time we arrived at Crater Lake where we had planned to camp with our summer gear.

We got out at the parking lot, took a couple pictures and realized we hadn"t thought this through very well...As beautiful as it was, the temperature change was too much and we headed down for the coast.

Great Pictures John! I feel more relaxed just looking at them.
