Ot battery rant.

Well I put new batteries in my 2 ford tractors about a year apart. The one in the 4610 was a $180 dollar NH battery the one in the 1720 was also a NH battery. The original one was in the 1729 tractor from 1994 until 2010, so I thought I'd get NH again. Well I now I have problems with the postive battery connectors being loose. I think the new batteries have smaller diameter posts on them, maybe it's just me, but on two different tractors? They weren't like that before i put in new batterys? I'm gonna see if I can buy new battery cable ends. Any other ideas!

They sell "caps" you put over the smaller posts and then put the cables on. Not ideal but they work. Any auto supply store.

I have spread the clamps and took a thin file and filed a little off the inside edge of the clamps. Don't need to cut much but just where the bolt goes through. It'll clamp down snug then.

Nothing would surprise me anymore as my son in laws const company bought a bunch of bargain tape measures because they lose a lot of them so decided to save some money. You know where they came from too. Turns out that in just two feet they were off 3/4 of an inch and at 8' they were off so far the guys knew it before even laying it down on the work!!! If they can't even get a MEASURING TAPE right then how can anyone expect them to get ANYTHING right????

Do not know about that but I do know that in the last say 5-6 years the price of a battery has gone up by 50%. Before this well you know who got in office you could buy a car battery for around $50=75 now the same battery is $100-150

I might be all wrong, but to my way of thinking adding a cap or shim just makes another joint/connection for corrosion.
In an emergency I have run a sheet metal screw into the clamp split so it digs into both the clamp & post.
For a permanent repair I like to remove the bolt & run a hacksaw through the split so it can draw down tighter.

Cut off a piece of copper water pipe and split it with a hack-saw, cover the terminal and the copper with petroleum jelly and push the pipe over the terminal as a shim, the clamp will tighten the copper on to the terminal. Done this many times and it works!

Every place I ever worked we supplied our own tape measures. Always an argument between Stanley versus Lufkin. Similar to Chevy versus Ford. Your sons first mistake was buying his craftsmen tape measures; no reason for the employees to take care of their equipment.

New holland batteries are made by Exide. I know around 'here', the dealers charge 150-200 + core for a regular group 31 battery. I can get the same battery (925cca) from the Volvo dealer for 89.00 + core. Exact same battery, only branded as an Exide instead of CNH, Agco, etc. I've found this with most things. Shop around, even at the places you never thought to look at before.
