Hydronic fluid

I have not done this and hope I never do. What would happen
if you put hydrolic fluid into a motor (1to 2 quarts) in place of
motor oil? I have put some hydronic oil into a 1 gallon
"havoline" motor oil jug and placed it in the cab of my combine.

Just wondering

A quart or 2 wouldn't be a big deal I don't think, might wear a little bit, but in the grand scheme of 10,000 hours, will you know if you now have 9,500 hours instead?

Now, I wouldn't want to put all hydraulic oil into a transmission that needs trans/hyd fluid, and leave it there for 10 years. That would leave a mark.....

Not too much. Most tractor hydraulic oils are 10W30 base stock to start with and as a gear lubricant they have pretty good EP and antiwear additives. It's not necessarly compatible with the engine oil you use but I doubt it would hurt anything. Some places they use a super universal oil in all systems on the tractor...

With all the tractors that has live hydraulic pumps running right off the engine timing gears, getting hydraulic oil into the engine is a very common problem. Most leak for quite some time before the operator realizes it. IH assured us this would in no way damage the engine. Don't worry about damage, just change the oil.

My hired man changed the oil in my farm truck once a year for more than 10 years, filter and yellow bucket trans-hydro. GMC 3500 350 engine odo turned three times that I know of, original engine. He takes care of the trucks and I do the tractors. Maybe "oil is oil"

I have an 830 CK Case with Caso-Matic, the rear end leaks into the Caso-Matic and it gets overfull and then that leaks into the engine, that engine has been running on 15/40 and TCH hydraulic fluid for the last 30 years, runs good, never hurt it one bit.
