Got replacement phone

I got a replacement iPhone 5 today for the one I lost yesterday. I do not carry insurance on business phones because it is statistically cheaper not to do it, but it sure does hurt to buy one outright.

That new "I" phone makes my $100 "DUMB" phone look pretty good. An guess what??? MY "dumb" phone will talk in places that the "Smart" phones will not. The wife's $750 "SMART" phone is just a paper weight in our house without the cell signal booster.

I know many like the "Smart" phones but I hate the things as they had very poor signal compared to the older phones that where talk only. Also the way you hold them makes the MIC be several inches away from your mouth. I have a HECK of time hearing someone that has one of them. Especially those that speak softly, like my wife and grand daughters. I rarely can understand what they are saying on the stupid things. The wife puts her headset on and it comes in clear as a bell.

Us older guys who spent some time on tractors and other loud stuff generally have some hearing loss, and cell phones are especially tough for me. I've found that if you tell your caller to put it on speaker, and you do the same, it will be clearer. You may have to tell them to speak softer, or further away from the phone, so it does not overmodulate.

I have a dumb phone, too- don't need all the foolishness that comes with a smart phone. I just use it to talk to people.

My insurance costs five dollars a month a new phone is what 3 or 400? So a 100 dollar deductible and 60 dollars a year for insurance ? I am extra hard on phones though. my insurance allows me two phones a year and I use em every year so for me insurance is a good deal . As far as the smart phone the other day I was baling hay and broke a part for the twine arm I had the part looked up and ordered before I got back to the house and parked the tractor this was at 9 o'clock pm on a Saturday night

I too have a "dumb" phone and love it.
better half tells me I need a smart phone, but the way she talks to hers I believe I will stay with my "dumb" one.

I carry insurance on my phone. The insurance does not pay if you lose it. Also there is a $200.00 deductible if it is broken, destroyed, or been in water. Mine got ran over by a truck. Cost me $200.00 and I had a new on. I only carry the insurance for two years because after that time frame we are ready for a free update.

I'm on my second smart phone and I do like the internet browsing feature but oftentimes I wish I had the old flip phone. With the flip phone I could flip it open with my thumbnail to talk and flip it shut to end the call. The smart phone has to be unlocked by swiping my finger across the screen in a certain place and if I have my sunglasses on it's hard to see that little icon I'm supposed to swipe. Hearing wise, I can't hear any phone real well but I can hear my Blue Parrot Bluetooth headset really better than anything. Anytime I'm in the tractor or car/truck my Blue Parrot is at my side and connected. Even if I'm in the house I put the Blue Parrot on before I make a call. Downfall to a Bluetooth is it draws hard on the phone battery when talking. Jim
