Forty years ago today we tied the knot

My, how things have changed! When we went to church last evening we took along the camera to get a shot or two at the same altar we stood in front of back in 1973. Marilyn was hesitant to take the pics last eve because she didn't think she was dressed up enough. I was wearing shorts so that's why I didn't post a floor length pic. (ugh) I wonder what we'll look like for our 50th?

Congratulations, we got hitched back in 1970, only seems like 10 or 20 years ago now lol

Well congratulations missus and I got to 60 on the 22nd so it is doable keep saying 'yes dear' and the next twenty will scoot right along. may the good lord take a likin to ya

Congratulations to you both. We have #49 coming up in December. If anybody took a picture of the married couples in our church about half of us would be wearing jeans, so you are in the minority with shorts.

That's great! It almost inspires me to try to dig out some pictures, scan them in, and post them. But I know I'll have enough trouble with that, that it wouldn't be good for my blood pressure!
You see we attended our 40th (class of '73) high school reunion this summer, and also celebrated our 40th anniversary July 27.
Best wishes for many more good years.

It is GREAT that you both have shared 40 years of marriage. I wish you many more.

Here is a funny thing. Think about how casual we dress today verses when you where married. Would you have even thought about going to church in 1973 in SHORTS????? HECK NO!!! LOL

I guess I am still old school. When I go to church I still wear a suit and tie. Just does not feel right to go dresses casual. Even when I go to weddings and such I wear my suit in the church.

Now for the rest of the story. LOL. The first one isn't funny. A couple of hours after the wedding Marilyn's brother almost lost an arm in a feed mixer. The doctors could sew him back together but it was very gruesome. Marilyn cried herself to sleep that night because of it. When we left for Colorado Springs the next morning we visited him in the hospital before we took off. He was hurting like you wouldn't believe. NOT a good way to start a honeymoon.

During the ten day honeymoon we stayed with Marilyn's aunt and uncle in Colo Springs and we stayed one night with my grandparents on the way home. Her aunt and uncle insisted we stay with them and they made it clear we had no other choice! Maybe they wanted to keep an an eye on ME! LOL The only motel expense was one night at North Platte Ne. Gas had gone up to .40/gal and we thought it was the end of the world. The whole honeymoon was financed by wedding gift money and we had some left over. We took the honeymoon in a new 73 Plymouth Satellite with no options except for power steering and an AM radio. It was our chariot for 300,000 miles. Both of our kids drove that thing to school.

Third story: Marilyn can still fit the wedding dress. It might even be a little loose. I can't say the same for me. That 36" waist I had is long gone and there's 20 pounds more of me now. I've tried to convince Marilyn it's all muscle but she tells me if it was muscle I'd be showing it off, not trying to hide it! LOL.

Out of all this came a son and daughter and six grandkids. Our oldest granddaughter will be graduating from high school next spring. We have lived in the same house and we plan to stay here for awhile longer unless the good lord has other plans. Where has the time gone? Jim

Congratulations to both you and your wife on your 40th wedding anniversary.

Hope you have many more to come.

Y'all are still a fine looking couple.

Congratulations, you both still look great, a guy told as long as he was sleeping on the top of the grass he was happy

Congratulations!! And many many more!! One month from today the Missus and I will celebrate our 54th. So best wishes to you both.
