camera help needed

My old Sony DSC-H1 digital camera bit the dust (literally, I dropped it), and after many years of faithful service and very good pictures I am now looking for a replacement. I tried a new Sony simialr to my old one, but was not satisfied with it. The view finder in addition to LCD display are an item I do require. I am giving serious consideration to a Nikon Coolpix P510. They have a newer version out (P520) but many of the reviews are reporting problems with the auto focus not working right, so I am looking at the earlier P510. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience, either good or bad with the P510. Thanks.

I'm not a camera expert, but the experts here say that the Canon SX50 is a camera in that price range and feature set you should seriously consider rather than the Nikon...

I have had several of the Sony cameras, If you are
looking for still pictures only, the Digital SLR
sony has is great, and it gives you the option of
changing lenses. If you are interested in both
Digital pictures and video, I have the Sony Handicam
which does both, excellent pictures and easy to use,
also has the viewfinder screen which makes
everything much easier than looking thru the little
peep hole.

The nikon 800 series takes excellent pictures when everything is on the right setting.(there is an auto setting) You will have some AF failure problems, particularly when shooting rapidly or the subject is moving.Would estimate the AF failure rate at 10-15% on total pictures taken until one is familiar with camera settings.Notice AF problems in low light shooting.Think the 800's have CCD sensors and the newer ones have CMOS sensors which are bigger, better. Am impressed with pics that larry/the/corner/guy posts on here.Your 500 series maybe more advanced than the 800's.

had an old Sony cybershot for 3 years, take 300-400 pics a month, finally died after being dropped 1 too many times. Bought a Nikon Coolpix s3100 early 2012 - biggest piece of doodoo camera ever. had trouble focusing in low light, pics looked good on LCD but when loaded on computer were in fact blurry, charging port was hard to get in just right to keep it charging. 2 weeks ago started getting lens error, starts out, then back, back out ..... I have a Sony DSLR A55 for taking high quality pics, looking for another shirt pocket camera, this time going to get one that doesnt have lens that extends and retracts if I can find one - just need decent pocket camera, good luck in your search

I replaced a Pentax 35mm that was lost in a breakin with a Nikon 3100D. So far I like it because does more things than the more expensive camera did and without having to take off or put something on it. The Nikon has both types of view finder sand great for those of us that wear glasses. One thing I really like is the Nikon will take nice picture in low light with no flash. Your Sony most likely had a Carl Zeiss lens and are known to take excelent pictures.

I like you have had Sony cyber shot for several years. Wife got Large Canon for Christmas but wanted one for the purse ended up with Sony HD Exmore . I was not impressed because as you I was used to the view finder and the display. After picking this thing up for a few times piece of cake and makes the best photos of anything I have ever looked at. 16.2 pixels and Lenses 2.6 to 22.5
Take a look.

Olympus Stylus Tough, had it for three years, no problems. Pretty much waterproof, shockproof, and has no exposed moving parts. Kind of a bulletproof camera for the un-professional. Only thing I don't like is the internal battery, when it's dead, it's dead, can't replace it unless you have an extra.
