Which of these three tractors would you pick?

I have three tractors that underconstruction in my back yard. The problem came up when my money was running fast and I need to make up my mind on which one to do. 1. 1956 John Deere 70 Diesel: It needs alot of work because it has been threw two flied fires. 2.1964Case 440 U: I have the engine rebuilit and the running gear done but still need paint and tires plus a radeator.3. 1971 I.H. Skid steer loader: I have the engine rebuilt and I am cleaning up plus repainting as I go. When my friends asked me where I was going on these tractors I really could not make up my mind which one I should get done first. Which one is the most important tractor to restore may I ask.

I would finish the skid loader because it would most likely sell the fastest to get funds up to finish the others to sell.

I agree the skid steer would sell quickly as it seems everyone wants one the Case if it has 3pt and pto would also be a easy sell as they are good property to own as well the JD I would think would be desired one because of the name and a dsl are found much less than the smaller gas units at least here anyway hope that helps

I would also do the skid steer first than the Case and do the Deere last because it sound like a lot of work.

All I can say is don,t sell a 40+ year old IH
skid steer to anyone you want to remain friends with. They were not much when new and even with your rebuilding the guy will not have much more than a big boat anchor.

Hi Just another way to look at this.
what are you gonna spend doing any of these to sell and what ya gonna get out at the end.
Chances are with most of this old stuff these days, the guy selling the parts is the only one making any money on you doing this.
your time is worth something. I would just try selling them as is where is and let someone else deal with the cost and problems.
Im not trying to be an A^^^^^E telling you this, That's the whole reason I quit doing old stuff for resale. The guy driving the new truck, having the new house built, and a 4 week holiday every year was my parts guys ,Not me doing the hard work, and dealing with all the complete time wasters when trying to sell it! .
Good luck with your decision please let us know what you did and how you got on in the end.
Regards Robert

Are you 'fixing' these to sell?Dont.Old tractors are bottomless money pits, you will never get your parts money out of them, much less labor....Just sellem as/is.You will be money ahead in the long run...if you need a tractor to use,put some money with the procedes and buy one ready to use....If you are 'restoreing' them for your personal use/enjoyment,thats a whole different ballgame....

Hi
Own use/ the fun of it is no different really now, at some point ya gonna loose money. Most places you can find a tractor in a collector sale that's not rare,is restored, new tires and stuff for less than doing you own one you just drive it.
A few widows have found that out round here with prices. what they thought the collection was worth, and what they ended up with when the hammer dropped.
I spoke to a guys wife the other day, he wants to sell, in the next year or so. she figures he'd be better dead first, as he's gonna be disappointed with the price he gets now l.o.l.
The best thing now is let someone else take the hit on the parts and time then save your money for the worse times that are looking like coming.
Regards Robert

Which one would you keep and use if it was finished?

Since the JD 70D requires the most work to complete, I'd sell it first.

If you can use the Case and the tires still hold air, or if tire boots (liners) and new tubes will patch up the rear tires, I'd probably finish the Case to use it. Skip repainting it for now.

You can probably sell any of them and buy a similar working unit for less cost than to finish fixing it yourself. It might be worth your time to reassemble without fixing anything that is disassembled, so buyers can see that it is a complete unit. Beyond that sell them as-is.

This is just one guy's opioion, you'll know what's best for your situation.
