I was looking for a picture of myself, the neighbor kid and Miss Michigan taken at the State FFA Convention when we were in High School, but I couldn't find it. I did find this list from February 1974 for the sale at Archbold.

Don't you wish you'd have bought a few JD 730 diesels back then?

May I enter my thoughts on the prices?
Aboot 40 years ago, the first G John Deere I bought was a 1938, I gave $25.00 for it, and when I got it to run I had around $400.00 tied up in it, paint and everything. A lot of the tractors I bought cost around $50.00 or a little more and most were in running condition. Some of them I spent more hauling them home than I gave for them. Most of the styled tractors were being used on the farm and weren't too collectable untill the late 1980s and early 1990s.
If I would have known the antique tractors were going to increase in price like they have, my field would been full of them.

About that time frame, was at a sale that had a JD 50. Told my dad he should buy it. He said no, could'nt afford the gas to run it. Tractor brought 275.00. Ya, wish we would have bought a bunch of about anything.

That makes two of us. I regret selling every tractor I've ever gotten rid of. I bought a Massey Harris 101JR back in the 60s for $40. Sold it for $75 and was on top of the world. All the ACs,JD two cylinders,Cases that I've sold for $300 or less. Makes me sick to think about it.

In about 1973 I could have bought a John Deere H or an Allis Chalmers B for $140 The AC was one of the earliest because the front hubs were riveted to the hubs. Did not buy because I did not need them

Hind sight is looking a cow in the ''ss.
As a kid i bought old brittisch motorbikes for a couple bux a piece. Today they would fetch 5 grand or more.

It's interesting that most of the used tractor prices are within +/-50 percent of their current values.

www.DollarTimes.com calculates a $1.00 in 1974 would be worth about $4.97 in 2013 US dollars. (Average inflation of 4.2 percent).

Dad sold out in 1973, the gas 70 and the A sold for less than $700.00, that was both together. We farmed with them, both had new tires and good paint. The 180 MF brought $2000.00
