OT, way OT - Deodorizing Boots

Neighbor a 1/2 mile away from me had about a dozen head of cattle make a jail break Sunday morning. Since they ended up in the yard next to ours and I was up I went out to lend a hand. Got em moving toward home across the road without getting hit and slogged through thigh high wet beans keeping them moving.

Had my regular work boots on and they just got soaked and now absolutely stink. Let them dry before wearing and have tried a couple of "odor eater" products with no luck so far. Anybody got any ideas on removing the stink short of replacing the boots?

TIA,

Kirk

Be careful of putting odor-eaters in your boots.

There was someone that did that and they dissapered.

I thought it wuz funny!

Kirk, When you get in this evening pour a good health dose of Baking Soda in each boot, the B.S. should adsorb most of the stink. Might take multiple applications!
Hope this helps.

Kirk, Before you start with the Baking soda.... Get a fresh can of Saddle Soap and thoroughly wash your boots first!!!,(a good washing will help get rid of salts, sweat, animal urine, you name it, those things mixed with you own sweat can make a stink that will take paint off the wall!) , Then, when they are damp, like you just pulled your foot out of them on a 110* day, give them a dose of B.S. and let stand 24hrs or so.
After you get them back to where thea are ok to wear again Mink oil will help water proof them and condition the leather. Hope this helps!

If they are leather boots, the leather could have been tanned using urine. I used to wear a brand like that and they always smelled. Changed brands and the problem went away.

More likely I think that they were tanned using tannin. Maybe that's why they call it tanning.

Old bow hunter friend of mine use to fill his rubber boots with cat litter in between hunts to absorb scent and pour it back into the bag when he was using the boots.

We also use baking soda to absorb scent.
