got some growing on a huge oak stump ,about 20 lbs or so, any good recipes for it,never had it before,would like to try it,any advice,thanks
 
I just fried it like morels or put in in soup or stew. I haven't seen one in a long time. Shaggy manes should be popping soon too.

we call em sheepshead. they are a strong flavored mushroom. cut em off the stump with a sharp knife leaving some of the base, so it will grow back next year. i like them thin sliced and fried with steak and onions in a brown gravy. they are also good diced and used just like regular mushroom. when you pick em, place them in a bucket of water and run the hose on em for a little while, lot of bugs like to hide in there.
