Question for guys in Indiana, semi farm plates

I've always gotten farm plates to cover a fully loaded load, gets a little expensive. A 78,000 and over plate. Other guys tell me different things, "only plate your unloaded weight" and other stories. Asked two ladies at the two license branches and got the answer that I was doing what was needed (the more expensive option). Anybody really know??? Thanks

The two ladies gave you yhe right answer. One question are you grossing out 78,000 or more? If your not grossing out that much there are lighter plates.

You have to have a plat that will dover the most you expect to weigh, that's why they sell them.
If it were the other way around everbody would just get a pickup plate. The old saying if you want to play you have to pay..

I am grossing that much, thought I had the right ones. Guess these other guys might find out the hard way.

I have 3 semi's all plated for empty wt. it is good for hauling from farm to town only. 80,000 + 10% . IF you get scaled over that ,they start back from the 30,000 plate to fine you! it is worth it,cost is around a 3rd of the full price. I read the web site word for word, and all drivers with no cdl for season work, need, is to have a copy of a regular physical in the truck.so the next time I have 3 different dots telling me 3 different ways, I am prepared to argue !!!

living in Indiana and haveing a CDL i've kinda found that NO-ONE really knows what's going on. Especially the folks at the license branch. Of course you can't call anyone either without a 20 minute wait. I don't think the the police know either even thought they enforce some of it.

As other said, I always thought you had to plate for what you carry.
