Anyone know the dimensions of the wooden teeth used on a sweep rake. Believe they were a stock item at lumber yards many years ago. Also what material (wood)?

Roger how far are you into Iowa? If you can get close to Norfolk Nebraska a have a few that where for a wooden frame sweep. Found them in the rafters of the old garage on the home place, but now live 20 miles from there now so will be a couple days before I can get you a measurement. chris

They were cut from red or white oak, white oak being less likely to break along the grain. They were cut at either 6 inch lumber at the root or 4 inch. Straight taper to a rounded point about 2x2 size. Length was 8 ft for the 2x4 ones and usually 10 ft for the 2x6 ones, sometimes 12 ft.

Dad had a Jayhawk hay sweep(stacker) that used them. I also helped close out a lumber yard once by buying 3 bundles (x4) and some loose ones. I hopw someday to get to build my Model T depot hack.
