Crowds changing at Shows

I have been displaying tractors at our local show for close to 25 years, and had nothing but good to say for exhibitors and spectators alike. Yesterday someone stole the gas cap from the small tank on my JD H. When I reported it to one of the directors, he told me someone had stolen the Ball jar off a Farmall air cleaner also. I am very disapointed that this type of activity is coming to tractor shows. It is not that these items cannot be replaced, it is the idea of out and out theft of someone elses property when they are showing for the spectator"s entertainment.

And the sad thing is the person that stole these items probably had no use for them other than just seeing if they could get away with it!

I try to remove anything that would be easy pickens like center links and cigarette lighters. Gas caps are stretching things though . Theft is rampant in our rural community. Rough for those of us who remember homes that did not even have locks on the doors.

I didn't see any thieving at the show at Almelund yesterday but what I did notice is a hell of a lot of fat people. My word Americans are overweight.
I could stand to lose about 15 lbs myself but I didn't start putting on a gut till I was well into my 50s. But even young bucks and pretty girls have a roll around the middle.

A good friend had the spare tire stolen out of the bed of his pickup in town. If it is not nailed down today someone will try to take it.

It was in the news recently that Mexico has now surpassed the US as the most overweight country in the world! And I"m leaving for Mexico in a couple of hours.

In Culiacan, where I have relatives, there seems to be a Taqueria on every corner.....yummy!!

I saw that stat too....they eat tons of veggies in Mexico.....must be the tortillas....

If they would steal 2400 gallons of diesel fuel from a school nothing would surprise me what people will steal even at a tractor show. Three electricians and a boat operator were caught stealing copper wire and any other metal they could sell from the military base where I retired from. They even ordered an expensive wire stripper to strip the wire as its worth more clean
and charged it to the government. They were probably fired, I haven't heard much in news since it happened. They had to forfeit all the money they received to the government. Hal

Yes, the tortillas are fried in lard. And who can pass up huevos revueltos, frijoles refritos and chilaquiles for breakfast!

Someone stole the grill out of a D10 allis at the Portland Indiana show. They also took tools from a toolbox on my tractor. Not going back there again.

Reminds me in the mid 1960's my dad bought a new MM 670. The dealer asked if they could display it at the fair before delivering it. When they brought it someone had heated up the cigarette lighter and burned it into the plastic center of the steering wheel-- nearly 50 years ago. Dad should have asked for a new center cap but didn't.

We had the fuel tanks and cooling systems on several tractors filled with dirt and grass at Blyth Ontario approx 10 years ago.
Really disheartened my elderly Father had purchased, restored, cleaned , polished and transported the 40,50,60,two 70"s and the 80 to the show. Never took them back since.

They were probably promoted, or at worst put on extended paid leave.

I notices in the statistics recently that obesity is declining in MN, that is good news! Nothing against shows, but events like that draw more overweight people, the people that are in good shape are out riding their bikes or jogging.
It's just like we have noticed grocery shopping ,at Walmart there are lots of overweight people, a few at Target, and if you go to a real upscale grocery store there are very few!
By the way, Ultradog, I put some deer pictures on the food plot thread for you, the location is a secret though!

Dale, I'm sorry to hear that. It probably was a kid but maybe not? We haven't had a whole lot of reports of things stolen at our show through the years. I lost the rain cap off the same tractor at that show twice. I don't know if someone had it out for me or if it was coincidence. Jim

Seems about right, theft of everything seems to be up. I blame a stagnant economy, joblessness, little hope for a better life that the Left has been spouting and the brainless and lazy eat it up. I'd like to see a few of these thieving dogs put down permanently, since the jails are full of drug users, dealers and "manufacturers" (who also steal their supplies from the local farmers).

Also those who bash mail boxes, just put up the 4th one in the last two years.

Yes, I agree the crowd is changing. I have been seeing young women in evening dresses. One young woman walking by as I was driving out, yelled how much she like my tractor. I did the announcing for most of the pull. When I came back into the trailer after a break I noticed that the attractive young lady who was recording distances had a tattoo of a Farmall H on her back. So I agree the crowd is changing.

Oh yeah, that theif's going to be able to retire after he sells that gas cap and mason jar on ebay... Yeah, right.

These thefts have nothing to do with the economy or particular political persuasion. Those items were stolen for one of two reasons:

1. They needed it for their own tractor.
2. To see if they could get away with it.
