Put up 2.5 pints of pickled beets and the when those where done I did 8 pints of strawberry jam. Guess David G came on the wrong day and Kruse might make it on the right day LOL

Those beets are good cold with raw onions aren't they, never grew those, do they require anything special to grow ?

We made 14 pints of pickled and put 32 quarts in the freezer. Our beets did great this year. We also gave some to S.I.L. and a neighbor. Some were as big as softballs and didn't get woody at all. Our garden's been great this year. Don't have a clue how many quarts of squash or beans she's frozen this year. Keith

They seem to grow better in sandy loose soil or soil that is easy to more. Sort of like any crop that grows under ground so the plant can push the soil out of its way as it grows
