Well we where putting up animals tonight and the wife yelled coon. I ran ya right my run now days is a half limp half get going sort of fast. But any way I got to the house got the 410 and got out to the tack house as fast as I could. Shoot 4 times at moving targets and got 2 out of 3 and maybe got the 3rd one as it ran out or the barn. Would have gotten the 3rd one but did not want to shoot the wife in the leg since she was standing in the way

They wiped out my first round of sweet corn night before last. Hope to get back and control them before second round comes on.

Hey David,
I'm thinking we might want to go visit Old together - Least one of us might make it to post!

Well you do know I collect weapons be they primitive or modern or between but I also was a hunter safety instructor so I do also know very very well how to control my weapon be it a bow a gun a knife or what ever. I have training that I was not suppose to ever have and if I told you what it was I might have to kill you LOL Ya just kidding on the kill you part

Hey old:

Ever think about replacing the buckshot with Rock Salt & Mustard Seed, won't kill the critters except at point blank range but they'll sure wish they were dead, they won't stop running 'till they're in the next county. Rock Salt burns 'till it's all dissolved but the Mustard Seed just keeps on burnin'.

Do not have a shotgun reloader yet. One of them things I want to get but till I find the $$ and the right price do not have. But once i do get one best watch out because what I may load will knock the socks off an elephant

There was an article in the local paper today about a woman who was bitten by a rabid raccoon about three weeks ago. She had walked outside with her dog about 10:30 one night and the dog started barking at something and came flying back up the walk with the coon right behind him. The thing jumped her and she fell but got up and slammed the coon onto the ground. It scratched and bit her arm pretty bad. Of course she had to take the round of shots. It's got to the point that I am afraid to go out at night.

I used to volunteer for a local eco group - my job was to go out and take pictures of road kill.

Pictures were used to identify and count - a very good indicator of how many of a certain species is in a given area.

If you've got a lot of them on the road - you've got a LOT of them period. Most will stay away from the busy roads.

Got a lot of funny looks while taking pictures of squashed animals.

These days I'd probably be arrested as a terrorist.

If you have that many they must be finding something to eat around your place. All you have to do is remove the food. The least little bit of food will draw them. You could leave one kernal of cat or dog food on the roof of your car and it would be gone by the next morning.

Put a little Golden Maldrin mixed with a little coke and you will get all three of them next time. I don't know about dogs but I know the cats won't mess with it.

Guy I used to work with thought he had a coon getting into his trash. He started putting a cinder block on his trash can, and the problem disappeared. After a few months, he didn't need it, so he quit putting it on. Thanksgiving day arrives, and he takes some garbage out to the can, the lid is off and the can is shaking. He grabbed a shotgun, threw a stone at the can. the culprit pops up out of the can and he nailed it on the fly. It was a skunk, an it painted the area good doing it's death dance. Thanksgiving dinner got moved to John's mother's about ten miles away......

I just trapped one last night, and when I went to feed the barn cats, there were 3 young ones hanging around, one was stupid enough to actually attack one of my cats about 2 feet from me, that one found out what a size 10 feels like pounding it against the wall. From now on, I'm back to strapping on my pistol even to just feed the animals in the morning. More traps and bullets going tonight.... Usually get over 20 a year...

Can't do that due to the fact cats, dogs, goat and horses are all in that area also and I am sure one of if not the whole bunch would give it a try

Can't remove all the food because it is there to feed the cats. And yes we try to put up the left over food at night when we pen up the animals but a person can never get it all

Wife found out if you leave the black berries to long they turn to mush and your hands turn a purple color

Well the xxxxxxx are eating my catfish, or at least trying. Every year I see catfish with big rips in there flesh, mostly on the back near the main fin. For a while I though it was snaping turtles but haven"t see one in three years. Lake is 2 1/2 acres not that big I would see them some in the past but not any more so I am pretty sure it is those pole cat coons. No food outside at my place and they are still all over, looks like I need to load up also.

I used a 410, shells are expensive and hard to reload.I had a hard time finding a box of 410 shells for a friend.I sold my 410 back in the 50s.I bought a NEF youth model 20 gauge for 88 bucks years ago.28 gauge has made a come back but shells are expensive and loads are limited.

410 shells are easy to find and now days what ammo is not expensive. As for reloading wish I was set up to reload shot gun shells but have not found a reloader yet to the right price

Ya years ago I had a dog or 2 that took care of the racoons but he has long since died. He also took care of a beaver once but that one almost did him in.

I looked in a catalog. You will pay 25% more for 410 shells,The lowest price loader is the Lee at 50 bucks and they dont make a 410 loader..Mec does make one at 170 bucks.

36 coupe:

I don't know about you, but I always run a patch soaked in Hoppe's Powder Solvent followed by a patch soaked with WD-40 through the barrel before putting up the shotgun.

Doc

Not true in this area. Plus a 410 is a one hand shotgun while a 20 can be a bit to much for a guy with a bad shoulder
