Well another bad day. Started baling the hay I cut on Thursday, and 1 pass around the field the thrower arm on the baler broke, I see it was welded before, so must have been fatigued. I baled dropped them on the ground and my wife drove my rack truck so I could pick up the baled and dump them in the barn. I gotta bring the baler home and see if I can weld it back together, or get new arms!

Hey kornfused, knowing I got the hay in and throwing them on the truck all afternoon will make me sleep like a baby! .... Lol

check the coil spring inside the hydtaulic ram on that kicker. When the spring breaks indside, the arms hammer themselves apart like that.

Ive been around john deere balers most of my life and have never seen one that hasn't been fixed in the same spot. I own three of them and my uncle runs two. They all have been fixed. We keep a spare set ready to go.

Well, there's your problem!

Did you weld that together the first time? Before you answer, if it were me, and I did that weld, I would never ever publicly admit to it.

The idea with welding is to actually melt the metal on both surfaces. That looks more like pigeon poop!

Once you grind all that nasty booger out of there and burn it in correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about it for a while.

Hi Steve, it's a 89 with a 350 engine 4x4 and a turbo 400 auto tranny. 176,000 miles engine tranny never been touched. It has a 9 foot dump rack body on it. I really have to get some rear leaf spring work done on it, 3 springs are broke and the rest need a re curve. Ya this is a good old truck.

I have a JD 336 baler and had the arm break in the same area as yours did. I was able to weld it and it has held for sevreal years.I cut a big washer in two and used it to reinforce the area and span the broken area . I got about 450 bales in today myself. I hope you got it all picked up, its raining here and heading east toward you.
