I took my Farmall H gas tank to severa shops that advertise gas tank cleaning. Several siad no way, too hard to get it clean. One oldtime shop about 30 miles away took the tank two weeks ago and I have called them several times. Never done. On Wed I said I would like to have it on Friday so I go there and he goes in back and get the tank out of the solution and says I should clean it out with gasoline. It was full of black crap like before but all the paint was gone so I know it was boiled. I said I thought you were going to clean it and he says" I can put some acid in it to dissolve the black stuff. I need it several more days. My problem is, when sent to be clean shouldn't it have thouroghly rinsed out an be clean inside.???? Been in business since 1924 it says on sign.. Am I going crazy or is it the rest of the world?????

I have a decent H tank off a running tractor for $40 plus postage, I can send pictures if you're interested. Sorry to hear of your experience, I have never taken a tank to be cleaned.

Yea you would think they would do that. I just I brought a tank to a shop to be cleaned, they actually cut three holes in it and blasted it out, then welded it back up.

I cleaned a gas tank from a JD 2010 . Poured 1 Gallon of Carb cleaner in tank. let it set over night. Drained and while still wet inside put a chain in tank and shook it around. Done real Good

Cheap fix is E85 unless you have leaks. An excellent place is Classic Gas Tank, 217-568-7234 at Penfield, IL. Tracy will fix it right at a reasonable price.

Sounds like there crazy, not you. I often take really bad tanks and put a length of small chain in them with a cleaner, and then shake the heck out of them - nuts and bolts will work too. The stuff sliding around usually breaks up most all stubborn dirt or rust, then I wash out with the hose and lastly dry and hit with wd40 or equivalent to preserve the metal. good luck.

I took a brigs tank and duct taped the holes shut, then put in a hand full of bolts and nuts, along with some parts washing solvent, then I put it into my paint shaker, had to leave the building just to think, man what a sound!, but it was shiny new meal on the inside,

Around here no one does it You would have to do it yourself. For common items it is sometimes easier to replace the tank (ie Farmall H)
