Musk melon question

Dave.........some people "thump" the melons, listening fer "hollow" thump. Others just smell the stem. Me? I can't hear but my smeller is still good. Heavy melons are usually more ripe. ........Dell

Well, It depends...
Are you shipping these or eating them?
There is some variation between varieties, but generally we looked at the curls on the vine, when they started turning brown and the stem slips off pretty easily when you hook it with your little finger, they are ready for eating.

Enjoy!

Like Larry's saying-- pick up the muskmellon and tug gently against its vine, when they're ripe they pull off easily. Watermellons are tougher to tell (for me).

look for a crack between the stem and the melon. The blossom end of the melon should be slightly soft, a little softer than the rest of the melon.

Sorry can not help you on that but can say this. You can keep them because if I eat any melon I go to the hospital. By the way be careful if and when you visit because I may throw beans at you. We picked 3.5 gal of beans this evening

The hollow thump. Dad told us kids to thump our head and then the melon, if they sounded the same it was ripe. We were so proud to tell others that. I have done that is a store. Ha Ha
