OT - One of those days

A month or so ago, I was looking for my hitch insert with the
1 7/8 inch ball on it. I only have one trailer that uses it and I
don't use it often. Couldn't find it anywhere.
Today I was looking for a draw pin. I have something hooked to
about every tractor out here, so I was running short.
Still, I was sure I had another one or two here somewhere.
In the course of hunting for a draw pin, I found the hitch insert.
In the bottom of the rolling toolbox in the barn.
Not sure how it got there! Still couldn't find a draw pin though.
So I took a draw pin out of one of the other tractors and drove
over to hitch up what I needed to hook up and there, in the
tongue was one of the draw pins.
So now I've found both. Guess it was a good day? LOL

You mean you didn't have to buy a new one in order to find the old one? Some people have all the luck. LOL Another problem I have is I've seen that hitch pin or whatever, but I can't put my fingers on it when I need it. That's when I go buy a new one and come home to find the old one laying right there where I last saw it. Jim

This is every day for me. I can be looking for something and looking right at it and still can't find it. Guess it is just part of this getting older thing.

I've looked for a wrench for over a half hour and gave up only to find it later in my back pocket. Looked for my keys a few weeks ago for over and hour found them when I closed the shop up for the night right where I left them in the side door had my hands full when I unlocked it didn't take the keys out. What I'm going to do when I get really old I want be able to find a thing

I am with you there also, Bob. It may be an old man thing but also had trouble when young. My Dad was a great mechanic and careful with his tools. Many times when I was looking for a misplaced tool while working with him he would just shake his head and say "You spend more time looking for stuff you misplaced than you do working.

I am sure he is looking down from above shaking his head even more now because same problem years later, just worse !

All I could do was laugh at the way things went today. I was hoping the new clutch for the 1850 would come yesterday so I could get that put back together this weekend. Didn't come. Then with all the watches and threats of heavy weather yesterday and last night, not a single drop.

So,I went and cut two fields of second cutting this morning. Then the clutch came in the mail. I got that in and bolted the hydrapower back up to the motor, chained the whole thing up to the loader, took it out to sit it in and it started raining. Supposed to be no chance today. Sunny, low humidity, cooler temps.

So I come in,check the radar,it was a small cell, about over. Went back out,got the motor set in and it started raining again. Must have rained close to an hour. I was just so darned happy to see it,all I could do was sit here and laugh. Told the wife I should have cut yesterday, maybe we would have gotten some REAL rain last night. LOL

I have purchased a hitch pin for every pulled impliment and then chained it to the impliment so it can't walk off. At least I know where they are.

Maybe there's something in the water. I decided to cut some trees under our electric lines along the drive. As I walked up carrying the saw I felt something wet on my pant leg. Discovered I hadn't secured the gas cap correctly. Got that solved, started the saw and a brand new chain wouldn't cut. Went back to the house to turn the chain around. Cut a couple of trees and ran out of gas. Tried to skid one of the trees and broke the chain. Decided to quit while I still had electricity the way the morning was going.

Bill that sounds a lot like my dad as well!
He was an aircraft mechanic when he was in the Air Force.
Tool boxes inventoried when you checked it out to start a job,
inventoried again when the job was complete to make sure you
didn't leave a stray tool in an aircraft engine, etc.
If he was missing something, I must have used it and not put it back.
He kind of forgot I was one of 5 children in that regard! :)

I just have 1 hitch pin on each tractor and 1 in the 4wd truck. Can only hook to 1 implement at a time any way. Mark

I spent 3 days off and on looking for my reese insert. One day 3 I found it - I remember putting it there where I wouldn't forget it.

I can see where that would work well, if I only had drawn equipment.
But with the 3pt hitch stuff as well, I need a few more.
I use one draw pin just to hold up my top link when I'm not using it.
(Yes, that's a small pin, one I stole off the lawn mower!)
Then I need another one to hook anything to the draw bar.
This being one of my Fords, it doesn't have a tool box to put them in either.
I like my old Fords, but they could have at least added the "hole
in the fender" tool box that Ferguson did. LOL
