Ya just got 2 more horses. Wife said she wanted some more so when I got a good deal on a breeding pair I got them. These are true hay burners since they are both less then 3 foot tall. Yep a pair on mini horses

Now you'll need 1 extra round bale each ! LOL !

How is your haying going, farmer friend near me, his sons can only do it after work or time off, finally got dry enough weather, nice breeze moderate humidity and he's got a few hundred acres, a lot of it in nice stands, just no way to do it all at once, I rode by and saw 2 fields of nice hay all raked and ready to bale, he mostly does round bales.

Have to ask how is your garden ?

I've finally kept the deer off my sweet corn, and though a couple rows have skips, late planting its taking right off, only thing not doing well is egg plant, and it was planted with the right nutrients etc, all that rain.

here in florida people will pay you a small sum of $ to TAKE horses.

I havn't seen a horse sold in 2years. :)

I got a mini, 2 quarters,a dn a mule. way, way too many..

Old, It depends on how you view the situation:
Hay burner on one end and organic composter for your garden on the other end.

So then you will be in a 20 mile range from me. I live south of Camdenton off of old hwy 5 close to the air port

Yep that is the reason she wanted them so we could take care of them and still have my compost matter to work with on the garden. I have 2 Arabian horses and a pony and now the 2 miniature horses 5 goats and chickens and duck

I have around 35-40 big rounds done so far and still have hay in the field need to be baled and also some needing to be cut. Did 5 big round this evening then cut hay for an hour or so and will bale it on Monday but do small squares then.
As for the garden things are not doing well. Was to cool then got hot then cool again so have lots of plants but very little to pick so far. Green tomato's all over Squash not doing well and some even dieing off for some reason. Beans also slow but have cooked a few just last night

Old, Sounds like a lot of compost to me. Don't forget to Ship High In Tansit, from the movie Smell of Success.

I feed hay with out a bale ring so that the horses waste a good bit of hay. Then in the spring I use the loader to pile it up and let it sit a year or 2. Makes very good compost and things that I grow in it seem to always do extra well

I make dirt the same way. Use weeds, old wood mulch, ash from burn pile, even silt from lake when it gets low and dry, clean off garden with backhoe and it too goes on the pile, except for the tomato plants.

I have people who try to buy a good bit of what I compost from time to time. Seems they have learned my compost grows things real well

It's too bad we can't legally eat horsemeat in the U.S. Currently.

What are people thinking? Do you know how many horses have been "turned loose" in our recent recession, because people couldn't afford to feed them?

I advertized hay for sale on our local Internet classifieds. Had some "horse rescue" person contact me about "donating" hay - are you kidding???

We shouldn't be "rescuing" them, we should be "using" them for dog food, and yes, people food.

(And I like horses. I have a pair of Belgians and a couple of ponies that I enjoy.)
