International Sickle Mower Id

Hi guys it's Bryce. Just scored a 7ft IH sickle mower for my Farmall C, problem is, I don't have a clue what model it is, or how to even hook it up for that matter!! It looks almost identical to a JD #5. It has the single tail wheel and mounts to the draw-bar frame of the tractor, I think.... :) I don't yet have a picture, but can probably get one tomorrow afternoon, and will post it as soon as I do! But for now, if anyone has any idea of what it might be, pictures of it, or how it hooks up to a Farmall C they would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Bryce

Just went for an evening walk, here is a picture. I have determined that it is a McCormick Deering 27V, but still don't know how it hooks up, or if it is even complete! Is the funny looking housing over the pitman normal? THANKS!!! Bryce

Looks like it's pretty much there, except for the lifting mechanism. I used one with my JD H for years. Good old mower! You will have to adapt a lifting means to suit your tractor.

Looks to be complete and normal except for the PTO shaft and shield which appear missing. It bolted directly to the tractor drawbar with the iron plates on the front of the bar on mower. They served the purpose at the time, but were not the greatest mower.

I have a 1949 Farmall C with the lift arm on the right side in the back, I think that the chain in the pictures should just hook right up, but not sure. The bar on the mower is bent, but I have a replacement. Thanks for the thoughts, Bryce

It could be a 25V or 27V. To attach to a C or super C, many people used an H drawbar. I used a 25 V with a B Farmall and later with a C Allis Chalmers.

Bryce, I have one that I use on an Farmall H that looks very similar to your sickle. I want to say it was a model 17. But I could be wrong. It was originally designed to rase with a lever. I modifide it to use a hydrolic cylinder for a lift. Works preaty good. My F-I-L has a sickle for a C. But if I remember correctly that sickle was mounted under the belly. I don't know how easy that mower will hook up on an C. It's not hooked up to the tractor . But if you can't get any answers from the more knolageable folks on this board. Let me know and I can try and get some pic's for you. Also you could try the farmall forum, they will probly have all the answers for you. Dale

That funny looking housing is normal. Think in all my stuff I have the mounting instructions but not sure and no way of posting if I do.

Looking at pic #2, the back side is the gag link.
The gag link is the stuff that lifts the bar and holds to outer end up.

Your gag link is for a 25V, not a 27V. I have both and just walked out to take a look.

Pic 3 shows the attaching drawbar. The 27V is a straight U while the 25V, is as in the photo, is what I will call an offset U.

The plates bolted to the attaching drawbar looks to be for an M or an H.

Now all you need is an H or M and the lift linkage.

Sounds like you have indeed found a 25-V,27-V,or even a #31 mower. A picture would help "Nail" it. The mower shown below is a 25-V. IH made a adapter package to mount these mowers not only on IH tractors, like your C,but other tractor makes too. For the C-Super C, a cable was used, along with a pulley setup clamped under the LH rear axle,up to and pinned to the Touch Control rockshaft to raise and lower the cutterbar.
