Have a 1988 935 Versitile that i am trying locate the charging diode in the system. Any ideas where it might be?

NOT sure what you mean by "charging diode", but I don"t think it has one, outside of the ones in the alternator.
What issue are you having?
If you go to the FIAT dba CNH parts site, I believe the wiring diagram will come up in the parts manual. I don"t have time right now to go look, but I will later.
Also, I will look as as I have SOME Versatile shop manuals from that era.
Look up them FIAT parts

we are replacing the original alternator with a Bosch alternator. looking for the diode outside of the alternator that tells the alternator to "come on" thru the small wire to the alternator. will check out your suggestion, thanks

Any diode with a rating of 2 amps and 200piv will do. radio shack. Jim

A dash lamp will do the same thing and indicate a charging failure.
