Well, we have had major flooding in the area. One life lost. The small creeks and tributaries just couldn't handle the massive amounts of rain that has come down. I went to the woods yesterday to load up the Chebby wood getter and got sodered in the hay field coming out, and had to walk home, Loaded the wifey onto the 770 and went up to pull it out. Fields are lakes and small streams.
Went down to my cousin's home today to divert the creek that chose a new course through his house and yard, with my Kubota KX41 trackhoe, and his dad and he brought down the skidsteer and Maxxum to clear the debries. After 6 hrs. I had a nice high berm made from all the stone that had acumilated in the creek when the water pooled because the 36" culvert on the county road coundn't take the flow. Called the county about the problem and they said " do what you got to", as the road was far worse below, and officially closed. While they cleared up the debries, I started building a berm with all the stone that had acumilated. I got the water flowing thru the culvert, and then started dreging the creek and built a berm with the riprap. Pulled several willow clumps from the middle of the streambed, and things are much better. Brought in 20 Ton of crusher run. to repair the driveway, but 30 would have been more apropriate.
These are pics. from yesterday and today

WOW! I've never seen a pickup rusted like that!Is that normal? We dont get rust till 'bout 50 years,we are so dry

Here in NY. people have forgitten how to drive in the winter, so the hiway departments use salt extensively to protect themselves from lawsuits. Way too many hotshot lawyers.Half of them should be jailed, and the other 49% shot.
Loren

ditto on the salt and calcium chloride here in western ny. seems most of my vehicles when they get right around 10 years old start rusting out and in a few more years the bodies look like the truck in the pictures including brake and fuel lines. bill

You did a nice job fixing up that stream. I really hate the damage that too much water can do. That being the case I would still take too much water rather than not enough.

Couple of questions:
1) Why go haul wood right after a heavy rain??? I hate making ruts in my farm lanes or fields. So I wait a few days let things settle a little then go at it. Now if there was a more immediate reason I have cut ruts too. Feeding cattle or getting the crop in but just to haul wood in that I would not burn for months. That would wait for better conditions.

2) You have a 4 wd truck but the tires are not very aggressive. Are they snow treads??? We run a lot rougher lug on the pickup tires around here.

Just wondering how/why things are done in other areas.

Can you imagine a commercial for a lawyer BY a lawyer saying...."Have you ever been taken advantage of by an attorney?...you may be entitled to compensation!" If we could only get them to turn on each other that would keep them busy lol....

Salt will do that- good friend has one like that, but manure from his dairy was the culprit.

That Chevy has self regulating Wheel openings set to the "I am putting 37" tall 12:00-17s on it tomorrow" setting. (I hate Salt) Jim

JD,
The only reason that I am cutting wood here now is because we had a 3 day window in the entire month of June to get 270A of first cut alfalfa. Rain fall for June 10,84". I reclaimed the edges of this field two years ago, gaining 25' all the way around. This entire field has from no top soil to about 1 foot on limestone bedrock. It was the last place that I would expect to get stuck. The hay was cut last week, and wanted to get in and out before the second cut came on. I haven't even started to cut wood for the two evaporators in the sap house. That will take me the rest of the summer and fall, as I am a one man band, and and at 66, it takes me all day to do a small amount of what I used to do all day LOL

HAR! Got news for you friend, that truck is in pretty much "average" condition for most in my area of NY. Loren lives down on the wealthier side of the state. Up here that would be a reasonably solid truck!

Not to answer for Loren JD, but I'm betting those tires are one there because that's what the truck came with or were available to mount on his field truck. Kinda hard to justify putting $6-700.00 worth of tires on a field truck.

loren, the seaweed on the pennysaver box was a nice touch. lol.
we had 4 1/2" of rain here. the low flat was all under water yesterday, but I can see dirt on about half of it sunday am. the Mohawk valley got it worse this time for sure.

Wow, that's awful! I thought we were wet... but that is crazy wet. You and wifey be careful Loren.

That old chev is nearly pristine compared to some up here in Franklin county,NY.I have noticed a little less salt use the last 2 winters, probably because we're about broke. But hey rusted out vehicles mean buying newer or new which means sales tax dollars(8%) in this county which means money for the state right through to the villages.

Hi Loren. We're i am 35 miles from you,we dident get hit that like you guys did. Glad all are safe. I was just looking threw a summer travel paper, and I see an ad for a creamery! Says the Fassett family, any relation to you by any chance? Lol
