cleaning a gas tank

What's the best way to clean the tank on my Jd 420? There is some, rust varnish and other mystery substances in there. I've been told to try everything from nuts and bolts to vinegar. What's worked for you?

I've used Marine Clean with good results. I got it at the local NAPA store. Easey to use and did a good job.

If you have it off the tractor, put some chains, nuts&bolts in it, add a gallon of diesel fuel. Put it in the back of your truck and drive for a few days. Ellis

Hi Nick,
I have mounted gas tanks in a portable cement mixer by bolting it in side and filling it with nuts and small bolts and letting it run for hours with good luck.

We used several chains to clean the tank on "Uncle Earl" our JD 39B.
