Lead additive

In the old tractors I have found that adding Octane boost helps from fouling the plugs. These low compression engines with modern day gas don't seem to mix well. Most old tractors that aren't used but for parades I recommend octane boost highly.

Ive been using the 10% blend for 30 pluss yrs mow yard tractor rides and use in the garden ect with no problems it wont foul your plugs unless your carb is running too rich then any thing will foul a plug also oil consumption will foul plugs. This topic has been discussed many times on this board. Save your money.

The only "lead additive" you can buy is 100LL avgas. None of the so-called "lead substitutes" actually contain tetraethyl lead. Don't waste your money; your old Ford will do just fine on unleaded regular.

So there you have it your A to Z answer. Probably more confused than before you asked the question. I would be.

On the subject of lead, looking back when it was the popular cheap thing for oil companies to do, when valve jobs lasted 45k miles and engine overhauls were 100k as the norm, given recent technology advances to tilt the scale, I don't ever want that crap in my engine regardless.

Would like to mention, in case you didn't see it, there is a 2n 9n 8n forum if you look a little further down the forum index. lots of great info on there.

and to add, if the engine is in good shape and not using any oil you can add a few ounces of 2 cycle oil to the gas tank, it will make the valve guides feel better and you also.

I have used every gas available at our local pumps and my H Farmall is used for plowing, parades and long tractor rides the last 10 years and have never had a bit of trouble. The quality of gas when your Fords were built was very poor.

Your Fords will run fine and be trouble free without that "lead stuff" and other crap-in-a-can liquids that people try to scare you into buying.
Save your money and use it to buy breakfast when you drive that Ford to the local restaurant.

Can"t find it now, bot sumeplace I have old original IHC recommendations for Farmall H; Make sure you use octane rating at least 75, and store the gas in a closed container, not in a washtub.

Some 9N/2N were made to start and warm up on gas. then switch over to kero. There is no lead or octane in kero. Many early tractors were this way and they did just fine.

Even though your question is your concern over whether you need a lead additive, octane has no relation to [b:5cb06a6a20]"Lead".[/b:5cb06a6a20]
This video should be viewed by anyone who uses and recommends [b:5cb06a6a20]"Octane Boost".[/b:5cb06a6a20]
