john deere b motor running fast

my john deere b is kind of starting hard, it will take a lot of turns on the flywheel to get it to fire and when it runs motor is running really fast, i tried turning the mag but its not helping, timing is set good too. so i am not sure why it wont slow down, i think carb needs some adjusting but still not sure, any help would be great thanks!

Check for binding of the linkages in the throttle rods and make sure that when the throttle lever is full throttle it is 1/2 hole short of the hole in the top of the carb when full throttle. Adjust when not running.

i dont think that is the problem because it does idle down but still runs faster than it should at an idle, doesnt sound like a 2 cylinder i guess u can say but it also doesnt sound like it is missing

Describe how the problem started. From your description it sounds like a governor issue. As others have said, first check for binding of throttle/governor linkage. If that seems ok, disconnect the governor from the carb--then control engine speed with the carb by hand. If that is ok, then the problem is internal to the governor. One thing to check quickly is to remove the carb and check the throttle butterfly to be sure it hasn't come loose. Mag timing can make for hard starting , but won't cause engine speed issues.

dont really know how it started, tractor had been sitting for 15 years its my grandpas he and i have restored it, after engine had been rehauled and got it started for first time engine has been racing, i didnt touch the governor just pulled that cover off of it to check gear and made new gaskets for it, hopeing its not internally in governor i will try running the throttle control by hand

Slow down a minute.
Patsdeere gave you some advice on things to check which it
seems like you summarily dismissed.
Paul also gave you some things to check, as did TomA.
Take the time to check them. It's been sitting a long time.
Since you said you didn't go through the governor, I'm assuming
you haven't gone through many of the other parts too.
To your question, check for a vacuum leak at the carb, intake,
any where that it could suck air in.
I would tend to believe after setting that long it is something binding.
Do you have a manual so you know how to set the adjustments?

Yes I have the original manual and newer one to. Tells all
adjustments and I will check for binding again and also leak. I
was assuming carb is reason it takes quite a few turns to get it
started since Timing spark and compression are all good.
