MF 275 Perkins engine. What is normal operating temp range?

We are wondering what the normal operating temp is for the Perkins engine on a massey ferguson 275. We are running a round baler and it seems to be overheating. It starts blowing coolant at around 210. The engine is just completely rebuilt with less than 30 hours on it. We have been running this baler for the last couple of day, but all of a sudden it is overheating. The baler we are running is a NH 658. We are on the 4x5 setting now but we have to do 300 acres with it set at 4x6

My Perkins runs on the cool side. Have to really work it to get it to warm up good.210* is pretty darn warm! Sounds like you have a cooling problem. Bad t-stat, plugged up radiator or a collapsed hose?

My MF 175 used to overheat when I was round baling with my baler. Everybody told me it was the tractor...I checked everything and couldn"t find anything wrong with the tractor. Later I found out it was the baler causing the problem. At some point a previous owner had put new bearings in but they put a lock collar on the wrong side of a shaft. After I fixed that it has never over heated again. Do you have another implement that will pull it as hard as your baler will to try it with?

That lock collar must have been burning up to cause that much drag! Good to hear it didn't start a fire!

Have the same engine 4.248 in an AC. Typically runs on the cool side. Takes a work out to get it to mid range. Some things that needed attention over the years were the thermostat and a partially plugged radiator. My AC is now retired to a chore tractor, but years ago we used it on a 4 x 5 round baler and it never made it to the actual "run" temp, unless it was over 90 ...which we seldom see here in the northeast. .

I have a 175 with the 236 in it. I don't think its ever been above 165 degrees. It only brush hogs, rakes and square bales hay though.

Well I'm and idiot. The radiator was totally plugged up with crap. This field is very dusty. So I blew her out and everything is good. I was just in freak out mode since we spent so much time and money to get equipment in tip top shape. I was thinking worst case instead of simple. Thanks everybody for your feedback.

It was a good day of baling after blowing the crap out of her.

Yup the Perkins should run cool. I have 5 of them and have only been able to get one to overheat, and that was bushhogging 7' reed/canary grass with the 8 footer. You know you are working them when you use two tanks of fuel in a day! As for blowing out the radiator, I have a blowgun with an 18" piece of brakeline brazed onto the end. It works great for getting around the fan blades and getting the tough areas blown out.
