H4 Magneto Manual

Have an H4 on a B Farmall.Runs until warm then looses spark.I would like to have some more info before tearing into it.Any advice is appreciated.
 
Nebraska Cowman once sent me a link for this free IH magneto online repair manual...

Google "GSS-5035 Service Manual Magnetos" and click on the top link of the list Google generates.

When that manual webpage opens - click on PAGE 39 for H4 info. Also has info on many other IH magnetos.

Did not post the actual link, because I did one time and it either would not work or was removed or something.
 
Not much of a 'magneto man',but it sounds like the 'internal' coil has gone bad/developed an open/short.Put in a new coil,that should fix the problem.If I'm wrong,someone will correct me....
 
Since ive had Bs for many yrs i did have one one time did the same thing. Changed the coil and that was the end. Outside of that did have one with a cap that when it got wet would leak spark and miss. Gave some new coats of spray paint and that solved that problem. Im sold on the Mags they just seem to work
 
I'm into Wisconsin Engines..but that sounds
typical for Wico, or Fairbanks-Morse magnetos
on Wisconsins..Runs until hot, then quits is a
sign of a bad coil. An old magneto man that I
know, runs repaired magnetos under a heat lamp,
for an hour before returning them to customers !
www.bransonenterprises.com has parts for IH, H4
magnetos.
 
This Web Site, Y/T, has coils, and repair kits for
IH H4 magnetos.
Just go to "Tractor Parts", in upper left corner
of the page, click on IH, then your tractor model,
then "Electrical", and poke around.
 
If you replace the coil have someone who does that because the core needs to be pressed out and installed in the new one.
