Not sure but doctors think my wife has lyme diease she has bad headaches, pain that comes and goes from one part of her body to another. she has had ticks on her this spring. She has been very tired for several weeks. what do you know about this diease. Would ask for prayer also. Thank you for any help with this problem.

Yep...Had it several years ago. Nothing they can give you that I know of. Each day could be a different pain. I was sick sick for 22 days. When my eyes hurt I dripped WARM tea bag juice in them. They should be able to tell from a blood test. Good Luck and I feel for her.

Yep, I also had it several years back. Never knew I had it. My doctor noticed I had it right away during a routien visit. He asked me if I noticed the rash all over my stomach. I told him I"m color blind and can"t see a rash. He asked why my wife didn"t notice. I told him that we"re at the age where we don"t like to look at each other without clothes on. He asked me how come I didn"t notice all the aches and pains. I asked him how I would tell the difference from my normal constant aches and pains. He gave me two weeks of some kind of applicable strong antibiotic.

Hope your wife gets well soon. They say the sooner treatment is begun the more effective and complete the recovery is.

I had so bad it crippled me up, couldn't get on the dozer. Had a rash on the right leg, looked like measles.Nowadays, they give you antibiotic in an IV solution over a period of time. For some it works better. It beats taking pennicillin tablets like I took. Seemed like forever to clear up. Do what the Dr. tells you, should be alright. Some people have lingering effects from it, others don't.
Hope all works out.

A few weeks ago a friend was not feeling well and said he was "being treated for" Lyme disease. I asked him what that meant and he said that he diagnosed it himself from the internet and called his Dr. and the doctor called in a script for an antibiotic. He was all better in a few days. Your results may differ.

Not all ticks carry Lyme disease. It is the tiny deer tick that is a carrier. The common dog tick is a carrier of the more rare Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Doxycyclin (spell ?) is generally the antibiotic of choice for treatment of Lyme Disease. However it may make a patient VERY sensitive to the sun - even with long sleeves and sunscreen. So your wife should stay out of the sun if she has been prescribed this. If treated fairly quickly at the onset of symptoms she should recover fine. However the longer a person is sick the more likely for residual effects down the road. I was "sick" for seven years, always attributed my headaches for stress and aches & pains as work related. Until I developed a high fever (105) and was very ill. I was first put on doxy and burned severely, even though I was thoroughly covered up. Antibiotic was changed to ceftin. I "recovered" only to get sick again. This happened twice, my dr. then referred me to a Lyme specialist and he wanted to do the IV antibiotic treatment, but I was unwilling because of the type of work we do. Instead I was put on a high dose of penicillin for three months and that seemed to knock it out of me. However, because of the damage the bacteria had already done, I do still suffer some pain in my joints occassionally. A big problem with Lyme disease is getting it diagnosed correctly; because the test they have is not very accurate (I had four negative results) doctors will usually diagnosis it based on symptoms. Just this past weekend, we found a deer tick on my partner and our dr. prescribed a course of antibiotics for him as a precaution (because we live in an area with a high rate of lyme disease). Good luck to your wife, she should do well if she follows the directions on the meds and takes the full course (don"t stop taking them until finished).

46'er,

I've had Lymes for 28 years, and I know a lot of people who have similar chronic Lyme conditions. I have had 2 runs on the IV antibiotics, back in 86 and 88. They helped straighten out the brain and spinal cord infection, but I did not get cured. Unfortunately this disease is very political and most doctors are very limited in what treatments they can prescribe. It seems the treatments are limited by $$$$ (insurance company and big nnalert money). Some people from our support group have gone to Mayo, and have not been treated well at all. Many of the tests are highly flawed as they are based on the human body developing antibodies to the spirochete bacteria. Some of us will never have a positive response to those tests, because we don't make the antibodies. There is a lot of science to the "why" of the non antibody response, but for this discussion, just say there are many people who do not make such antibodies.

The usual first antibiotic of choice is doxycyclene in oral pills. My SIS was given a prescription a few years ago of 1 such pill and told that it was all that was needed. What a load of BS!! A 2 week prescription of Doxy is common, but when my wife had the bite and bull's eye rash, I insisted on doubling the normal Rx and going for 30 days. This is about 6 years later and she is beginning to show some of the symptoms in joints, fatigue, and memory loss.

There is a blood test that tests for the shreds of spirochetal DNA in the blood. It is called the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test. It can be done by a lab in California, IGENIX. No antibodies are needed for this test.

I hope your wife has a better time getting rid of this miserable disease than I have had. Some people's immune systems seem to be better at dealing with this bacteria than other folks'. Best wishes for her speedy recovery!

About 20 years ago I got a dog from the pound and she had the early stages of heartworm, which I knew nothing about until the vet explained it. At the time, one thing that he showed me was a map of the of the United States from Canada to Mexico, and the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans with a plastic overlay showing both heartworm and Lyme disease. The map itself showed their much smaller existences decades before, the 1960s, and the overlay showed the difference and their massive spread by 1990 when he showed it to me. The first thing that I thought of was the ban on DDT. Now, before anyone or everyone jumps me, I’m not saying that DDT should or should not have been banned. I’m just saying that given what the map showed as far as mosquito (heartworm) and tick (Lyme disease) showed in the 1960s and how they had spread so drastically by 1990 throughout the country, the timing of the ban would suggest a direct correlation, good or bad. Since then, other less poisonous and lethal pesticides have been introduced and banned themselves, such as Dursban, and again, I’m not saying good or bad, but I’m willing to bet that someone can map it out using a time frame. Good or bad, I’m betting that there is a direct correlation without trying to start any arguments.

46 m, best of luck and health to your wife, yourself, everyone else.

I was given Doxycycline for 30 days each time I have known I was bitten....that started 15 years ago. Have taken the pills 3 times.

I have a lot of arthritic pain (some possibly from doing carpenter work and just old age)that gets worse every year.

Very political disease. A MUST see documentary called "Under our skin" touches on the political and insurance side of the disease.

My friend was diagnosed about the same time I first was and his Dr. prescribed a series of 3 injections called "Limerex". Later found out that they should only have been administered before, not after being bitten. (Class Action Lawsuit Followed)

He is now on full disability because of this disease. Don't mess around if you think you have been bitten. My Dr. says the spyrocite never leaves your body. I have seen documentaries that predict Lyme will be at epidemic proportions in the near future.

Another recent documentary called "Ice Man" says they found the lyme spirocyte in the tissue of this Prehistoric man and that he had arthritis as well.

Best of luck to you and your wife....I hope all the best for you!

My wife has had Lyme disease for 40 years..For the first 35 years she was constantly misdiagnosed...She felt lousy most of the time but numerous doctors said that there was nothing wrong with her..Most regular doctors dont have a clue...Some wont even admit that Lyme disease exists.

She got so bad in late 2007 that we made a list of all her symptoms and it all pointed to Lyme..We searched on the internet and found a doctor that treats only Lyme disease but he was booked up for a year..We got on the cancellation list and she got in a month later..

She tested positive for Lyme and was put on high powered antibiotics...Shes lots better now but will never be even close to 100% because lots of damage was done due to incompetent doctors not diagnosing her for 35 years.

If we hadnt found a Lyme literate doctor my wife would be dead by now..We know several people that have died from Lyme..We also know quite a few people with Lyme in our area and we have referred them to the doctor that my wife went to..They are all doing better now..

Good luck and I hope that your wife gets diagnosed properly..Most regular doctors will only give antibiotics for 21 days and that isnt long enough..

I just finished a round of doxycycline. I had a tick in my leg three weeks ago. My wife removed it, including the the head. The next day I had a hole about 1/4 inch in dia. I have had many ticks but never anything like this. Doc started me on antibiotics. After three weeks I still have a swollen red area.

And the sun will affect your skin when taking Doxycycline. Mine actually felt like it was on fire.

I had a bout with Lyme 7 years ago incredible amount of pain all over horrendous headaches double vision and could barely walk very unsteady on my feet feet and shakes, took quite awhile for proper diagnosis. Treated with antibiotics orally still had symptoms a year later and they gave me iv antibiotics and that helped a lot but I have never been the same much more aches and pains and arthritis. For year I would drop things very often because of lack of feeling in my fingers very frustrating. So I'll pray for you guys and hope things get better for you
