john deere b radiator leak

just got our 1940 b running, we new the radaitor
leaked but used to be able to put stop leak in it
and it would hold, its got a few leaks toward the
bottom of radiator, anyone got any good
recomandations for it, i know there isnt any
pressure to these coolant flow systems so shouldnt
need to much id think, thanks!

I have heard good results from Bar's Leak, but you have to work the tractor hard enough to have it HOT BEFORE you put the Bars leak in. Especially if you just parade the tractor it may work for a long time. A replacement core for my '37 unstyled B was about $225 five years ago, no idea now. Didn't cost much to get it installed because I dis-assembled the old radiator and re-tapped the holes.

ya when we ran it today the water gauge got hot real quick, i was just gonna fill up the radaitor with water, start it let it got hot and start putting it in, it does drip a lot once its running but hopefully it will work

you could try jb weld on the leak , or silicone ,,that's what is on the vac case ,,worx ok,,chek the archives on this forum about using oil as a coolant

I know it"s not the easiest job in the world, can in fact be a real pain as at least some of the bolts break off in the upper and lower tanks, but if you had ever been inside a motor with a non pressurized cooling system that someone has used any type of stop leak in, you will NEVER use the stuff; big globs of stuff in passages, usually at the lowest parts of the engine. It seems that even getting them hot doesn"t properly spread the stop leak around. If your core isn"t too bad and can be repaired it shouldn"t be too expensive, just a pain to do!
Every time I do a Deere radiator or exhaust pipe, I have to remind my self that this is the trade off for not having to split the tractor to do a clutch job! LOL
