Gleaner straw walking somethings missing?

I bought a gleaner K combine that looks to be in good condition to harvest the small amount of acreage I have around the house. When it arrived I started going over inspecting it. I looked in the straw walkers, and notice that some of the spikey sections in the straw walker are gone. I called the man that sold it to me and he said they aren"t missing. I said but there are drill holes on the straw walkers where the spikey metal pieces go. He said that some models had less some had more and just depend on the crop. Is this true or should they start in the front going all the way to the back? To be more exact there are three sections of long walkers. The edges of each walker are spikey and they are there, but the center of each section only has three to 4 spikes in the front and none half way and all the way to the back.

that would be a "normal" set up of a Case machine, you added more as per field condition, I would think the same for the Gleaner as well

If you're talking about the risers that bolt to the center of the walker with sheet metal screws, they are for corn anyway.

Don't even need 'em for small grain.

I have 2 K's and the corn one is set up the same as yours. Not sure on the other, as there is a straw chopper on it and have not taken it off to look inside or removed the inspection covers to look in there either.

Yes thats what I'm talking about. I'm new to combines so forgive me. Risers are what they are called. Also where is the best place to get parts. I have been looking online, and f aftermarket parts are all over the place, but not much out there for the K except aftermarket belts.

John Deere calls em "fish backs".Optional, not really nessary. They drill all the straw walkers so risers/fishbacks can be installed later....

All they are is a piece of galvanized sheet metal with a few cuts and a right angle bend at the bottom. You could make them by the dozens with some tin snips and a vice.
