Bill.......play cricket??? Watch out fer that sticky wicket....

To keep bats where you want them, build BAT HOUSES. Simple, eh? ........belfry Dell

Bill,

I remember a discussion of this somewhere on another web page, but don't remember the details. Try googling keeping bats out of house. I think there is a repellant, maybe bags of moth balls?

My Great Uncle ran a small town grocery store in Eastern NC. He lived in a house with an old 2 story barn out back that was full of bats. Back then, no one cared about the benefits of bats or got mad if you killed them.
He got a large neon sign transformer from an old sign he had had at the store. Then he fashioned electrodes from heavy copper wire on each side of the hole the critters flew out through. He set the distance between the + and - electrodes just far enough apart that when he cut the transformer on it wouldnt throw an arc between the wires. When a bat flew between the wires, the circuit would be completed and the critter would be zapped by the arc similar to a modern bug zapper.Him and his son had a lot of fun at night with the rig...
The old guy was probably the inventor of the bug zapper and never realized or got paid for it.

The way the pros do it is to inspect and find where they get in and out. Usually a dirty stain on the wall. At night after dark plug the hole. Keep doing this till all holes are plugged.

Bill, Friends of mine had bat trouble at their cottage. The husband had a method that has success. He found where the critters were coming in and nailed a small pan of water (about 4" of water in the small pan(Child's pail) .when the bats come to the hole they swoop down just before entering. drowned em all. Took about two nights. Nailed boards over the hole. NO MORE BATS. His wife use to feel so sorry for the bats she buried em. I use to kid her and asked of she placed a marker -cross at their graves. If you found, and plugged the hole, at night,
after the bats went out...you"d trap the young
ones inside..the mom bats leave them there, they
don"t take them along for the ride. AND,,,,it
could end up getting quite smelly !

If there is only one or two holes, on the OUTSIDE of the building, hang a piece of heavy material to act as a flap (rubber or whatever will survive the weather) over the hole, fasten only at the top. The bats on the inside will be able to push out on the flap and get out, but will not be able to lift and climb back in. Basically like a one-way doggy door.

(quoted from post at 15:26:47 06/18/13) Whats the easiest and kindest way of discouraging or getting rid of bats in a house or shed?
