Was told that Ford, GM, And Chrysler were coming out with a 3 or 4 cyl. engine that's suppose to have as much power as a V8. Got this info second hand so i don't know if it's true.

Wellll I bought a 2002 Saturn VUE in 2002. It has a 150 hp 4 cyl in it. The 75 GMC truck was rated at 135 hp. I would not want to really compare when talking about torque to the two but the Saturn can go places in 5th that would surprise you.It does really well at high speeds but is revved up a lot to do it.I didn't think it would last long but we have 220,000 on it and it is going very well yet. In a truck, hauling I don't think it would be very good.

I don't think so either. Sort of like comparing the latest MTD mower to a VAC CASE with a belly mower on it.

Saturns are good cars though. My son sold his '95 with just under 300,000 on it. Still ran great. Needed a starter ring gear.

They're using fancy valve timing and electronics PLUS turbos. I have looked at the hp-torque curves on the Ford F 150 (I drive a naturally aspired, pushrod 4.8 Chev) and nothing wrong per se. I think they use a 2 stage turbo like in their Super Duty engines International makes for them. Don't know the exact setup on others, but they are using turbos too.

I have a concern on engine life and turbo chargers even though I ran an 800 cu in big cam 400 hp Cummins for awhile that was turbo charged. Seems to me that turbo's put a heck of a strain on rings and if you don't keep the oil clean, you would have premature overhauls.....but that's just speculation. My Cummins was an older engine but it had been professionally overhauled before I bought it and survived on my watch without any major engine problems.

First off I don't believe all the Ford hype on their Eco-boost and wouldn't want to have to pay
to fix one out of warranty.

I have an F150 EcoBoost I pull my fifth wheel camper with and also have a 73 F100 with a 460. The following is pretty close - don"t have the exact numbers but the Ecoboost is about 360 hp and 460 about 240 hp. EcoBoost has 440 foot pounds of torque at 2200 rpm and 460 about 380 at 5000 rpm. Drive both of them and you can see the big difference. Oh, the 460 gets 9 mpg on a good day while the EcoBoost runs 22 mpg and 10 when pulling the camper. Not hype - just fact.

"like in their Super Duty engines International makes for them." 00000 NOT anymore, Ford cut IH lose around 2010 and now builds their own PowerStroke turbo diesels (6.7L). Way too many problems with those later IH engines.
