Need info on my TD-9, when starting on gas I seem to be fuel into the motor at the same time, black smoke that smells like fuel and getting harder to start to the point it of not starting. I cant find anyone that knows what is causing this.

you need to get a manual and follow the procedure for all linkage adjustments, as it is quite complex and cant explain without re-writing the manual. when adjustments are in order they start very good.

Black smoke on start (gasoline operation) is from too much gasoline. The carb is flooding, or the choke is on/stuck. They like a rich mix mut not that rich. White smoke is unburned diesel not your issue. Jim

Thanks, I thought the same at first and I did rebuild the carb so that still could be the problem but this smoke sure smells like diesel. I will keep this in mind and look at the carb again. Thanks

When you are trying to start it, Is the diesel throttle lever in the full shut off position? You may need to check at the injector pump that its fully off and work back to the lever and adjust if needed. I had a TD9 that I had to do this to get it started and running right. Bandit

If you have been dumping gasoline in the engine oil, your problem will end shortly. That is the quickest way to take out the bearings.

Yes the throttle lever is fully shut off and looking at the injector pump lever it seems totally closed, there are springs on each side of the lever and I cant push it any farther by hand. Thanks for your thoughts and reply ...

Sounds like your starting valves are not opening. Make sure your gas/diesel lever (to the left of the diesel speed lever) is pulled all the way down. Does it make a snap when moved up and down?
If not it could be the lever (behind the intake manifold) is stuck. Common problem. If so WD40 it.
