OT: Texting and Driving Rant

Just got home from work. Almost got in a wreck in traffic I am sure the person was texting ahead of Me. They weren't paying attention to traffic ahead and slammed on brakes in front of me. I slammed on brakes missed hitting them by inches. I almost dropped my burrito and got sauce all over the steering wheel as I had to grab the wheel with my sauce packet in that hand instead of steering with My knee. I blew the horn and hollered at them but my mouth was full and I am not sure they heard Me..Some People..:)

When I see something in my mirror that I do not want to see, I quit looking at it.
I try to drive my car and let them drive theirs, even if they need help doing it.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this. I assume that this is meant in a humourous way. I sure hope so anyways.

You know what bugs me? I heard of a case of a woman that spilled hot coffee on her lap and came to a screaching halt. The person behind her wasn't ready for this and rear ended her. Guess who was found at fault for this? Not the distracted driver.

That would have been a real shame to have that burrito on the floor, under your feet while trying to steer with the steering wheel all slippery from the sauce, while your right hand and arm is feeling around for the burrito to get it back and blow the dirt and hair off it.

I sure am glad you didnt drop your burrito.
I think you may not have been paying attention. But, eating a burrito is okay cause you were hungry.

I hate it when I spill coffee on my burrito because i'm looking at a funny post on facebook on my laptop while I'm driving to work. Hard to shave in the car when that happens.

im sure this is meant to be humorous, but to me the worst thing that can happen while driving was a open big gulp in a big truck, you know the way you set that thing on the seat between your legs, [pre cupholder era trucks] when you hit a nice big pothole, the whole drink raises up out of its cup and hovers for 1/10 of a second right in front of your eyeballs, your mind registers what is going to happen, just as it happens and the drink completely covers your leg and area lol, and there's not 1 thing you can do about it,and your going to have some wisecracks anytime you have to get out of the truck for the rest of the day

I tell you, women drivers are a hazard to traffic. Driving to work this morning on the freeway, I looked over to my left and there was a woman in a red Mustang doing 85 miles per hour with her face up next to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner!

I looked away for a couple seconds and when I looked back she was halfway over in my lane. It scared me so bad I dropped my electric shaver in my coffee, and it spilled all over my cell phone!

I know just what you mean. That new crunchy beef burrito from Taco Bell sure is good and only a dollar.

I see it more and more. On Memorial Day on the freeway, there were 2 cars side-by-side going about 55-60 mph in a 70 zone. Car in left lane was weaving all over the place. Right lane guy finally inched past left lane car (red Honda) so people could cut around barely missing it. Traffic was backing up, especially slow with the RVs and trailers who couldn't accelerate well as traffic got around her. When the guy ahead of me got around her and I got behind the Honda in the left lane, I was flashing my brights to get her to move over and there was no reaction, just kept weaving. I figured she was drunk (middle of the afternoon on a holiday) and reached to call 911 just as space opened up next to her. As I pulled around, she was fully engaged in texting, only looking up occasionally to try and keep in her lane. I blew my horn but she never even looked at me, just kept texting. Traffic was backed up behind her for about a mile. This is a regular occurrence. When I'm on the road and see someone who is going well below the speed limit, tying up traffic, it's usually due to distracted driving.

I don't chat on my cell phone in the car. I'll make a call or answer the phone if it's safe, but I make it short. If I think it'll distract me due to traffic or weather conditions, I'll let it go to voicemail.

It's not just texting and cell phones. A few years ago on I40 at Raleigh, I came upon a Mercury Cougar weaving all over the road. As I passed, I noticed the driver had several typewritten sheets if paper on the steering wheel...driving 70 MPH and reading.
I called the highway patrol and they said they would take care of that problem..
