Ford Front wheel weights

OK, this may seem silly. Hear me out here. So I need some front wheel weights for a ford 801. I found a set but they do not seem that heavy (25 lbs a piece).

The center hub"s threads on an 801 Ford are just under 2".

Can I just buy a 25lb Olympic Weight Plate at Wally World, drill 4 bolt holes in it, and bolt it to the outside of the front rim? The Center hole on an Olympic Plate is 2". Then use the weights I found on the inside of the rim?

Thanks for the input.

25lbs?You sure they are not from a lawn tractor? The Ford weights Ive seen are 'pie slice' wts.Takes 8 per wheel. But yes I think you could drill a hole in the barbells and use them.

i ran around with a cheap set of concrete weights still on the bar, wired to front bumper on my '62 2000 for years...seems to me it was a 250# set...works good if you don't have a loader.

Normally Ford Front weights run about 100 lbs per side. You can find them both in the one piece style or two piece style which are more common.

The most common front wheel weights for 1950s vintage Ford tractors are two piece "half moon" style that bolt to the inside dish of the wheel with square-headed bolts.

They are found in both "light" and "heavy" versions. The light versions weigh approximately 75 lbs per wheel while the heavy versions weigh approximately 100 lbs per wheel, both figures including hardware.

Note: Depending upon the size of the hub cut out, you will likely find it necessary to remove the weights in order to remove the wheel for servicing.

Indiana, however.. The tractor is with Dad in Schellsburg PA. I never needed the weights on the flat ground here, but when he uses it on the slopes over there with a bush hog on the back, the front gets a little light.
How far are you from Schellsburg?
Thanks.

This has me wondering now, do you guys use front wheel weights because it's easier on the steering than hanging weights off the front bumper?

I'm not sure 6-10 inches makes a difference, but I like them on
the wheels for the center of gravity when working on inclines.
