I rarely see pans used in my area these days.

Everyone uses track hoes and dump trucks.

Always been my favorite machiene to work around.
Will move some earth in a hurry and are tougher then nails. I was a grade man in college loved to watch the double push D-9, D-8 behind a 631.
Too bad the nature of a lot of work in this part of the country ends up making trucks a better choice for most. Last job I worked we pushed 631Es with a D-10. Talk about a FAST load.

That's how I made my living, but the big Cat stuff doesn't work too well here, too flat!
Not enough dirt to move to make them cost effective, so most everyone uses TS-14's.

I'd venture a guess, that's Vollers, they were close to Bridgewater if I recall, as was a pipe place I used to pick up concrete pipe from. The red trim paint seemed to be on all their equipment. They did a big ATT job near me when I was up in Basking Ridge, 637's were in there. I've run 627's, but used to play dumb when asked most times, so I could run the D8K pushing, LOL it was something about going around in circles, from the cut to the pile, too much like being in a dumptruck all day, which was not all that much fun in my book but paid the bills so... I did a lot of pushing of scrapers, you learn to just bump em ever so light so not to launch the guy in the drivers seat. Also did a lot of ripping with that 4bbl massive single shank ripper on back of the 8, frost was fun, but rock you could not wait until they had the blaster come in,clunking along on hard ledge, shearing teeth/pins, do that too many years, the chiropractor will appreciate your business! On one job the name of the outfit was JF Mines, outa Hewitt, a fitting name lol, just looked them up and or had not thought about them in a long time, only found an obituary 2 weeks old, owner just passed.

I've run those too, thought the 627's were better, but those 14's were pretty darned good too, screamers with those detroits, in '99 I was on a job, but by then managements and a local company from my town, job was 220 miles north, had the earlier versions, Euclids or ukes as some called them, 75 acre site, no trouble for them, worked great.

There were quite a few years around here, say early 90's til a year or so ago, that we quit seeing scrapers and started seeing the excavators and 'arctics' doing their job. What I understood on the whole deal was that with that combination of equipment you only needed one "operator" for the excavator, and the ones driving the trucks could be, basically, trained monkeys that knew how to turn a steering wheel.

Like I said that went on for awhile until the owners started to realize that having 'trained monkeys' wasn't as good of a money saving idea as they thought. As a result we're seeing alot more scrapers onsite again. Personally I think it's a much better way to move dirt anyway, regardless of the 'trained monkeys' or experienced operators.
