Hanging a gate

I have a 14-foot, light duty gate--the kind made out of hat-shaped metal as compared to pipe. I have an H-shaped, braced end that I plan to X brace with high-tension wire and restrainers. The posts are set in concrete and the gate will only be used occasionally. Do I need to do anything else? I thought about guying the non-pivot-pin post back to a ground anchor, but don"t know if it is necessary. I can also support the free end of the gate on a block.

I have done a lot of fencing. I always put an X in the hinged post brace. But the cross brace wire pulls on the top of the post. So in a line fence the wire goes to the top of the post that is in the line.

if the fence wire is tight the gate shouldnt sag...i have same type gates...only problems i've had is hinge post leaning if gate is left open.

Gate posts should be made out of railroad ties or eight to ten inch posts buried at least three to four feet in the ground. That is the way I do it.

Ditto on the hinged X brace. On the latch side you can take one of the hinge lag screws & screw it in at the bottom of the post where the gate will rest, leave the pin up and when you close the gate raise it, set in on the pin. Gate won't sag then because of the X and it rests on the pin.

Amen, There is No substitute, For size of post, Big, like a a Cross-tie or 4 in pipe. OR, Depth of post hole 4 ft = IN DEPTH.
