Yo Rich, you post a lot of good gun info, heres what my son has, I'm NOT familiar with them but sure looked like it packed a punch from the size of the barrell!!!

He flew in from California and was sittin back when his jeans were raised up a bit and I see an ankle gun n holster. He shows it to me (carefully) and says its a Sig Sauer (Spelling???) 40 Caliber with a bullett in the chamber. Im NOT familiar with that gun, can you tell me if its a good one for personal protection!!!!!

When my son (taught them to hunt, use guns safely and responsible and fish etc) was in grade school here in Southern Indiana, at school the Principal has a gun safety education day and they actually fire a shotgun the principal brought. I sorta bet they dont do that in New York City ???

Take care Rich

Some schools had rifle clubs.I was in Maine in the 50s at a general store when some boys came out of a onc room school house with Winchester 94s.They hunted on the way home.I counted 8 rifles.Times have changed.A friend said his teacher came to school with a deer in the trunk and had the boys show her how to dress it out.I used to fix her TV in later years. She said she shot a deer every year sitting on her back porch.

When I saw the size of that barrell I WAS IMPRESSED. As far as quality and cost of say one brand over another, well if it saves you or your wife or childs life just one time Id say its a good value.......Ima thinking Im glad thats what he packs!!!!!!!

Like GVS11 said, Sig is top of the line. Kimber is another very good gun. They are both expensive though. I own a Kimber custom carry 11 in a .45 acp. Awesome machine but I can't bring myself to carry it as they tend to get beat up (atleast around me). My main carry is a Glock 26 9mm sub compact. It's less then half the price of a Sig or Kimber but very reliable and I don't mind scuffs on it as it's not a pretty gun to start with. I would prefer a .40 or .45 but in that small frame Glock a 9mm is enough to hang onto.

The sig 40 from what I know of it is a pretty good protection weapon. Dies to pack the punch of the 44mag or 45 but is also in a smaller frame. Other then that I do not know a lot about them but can find out pretty easy like. My son had talked about getting one of those or a 45acp of some sort

My Drivers Ed teacher in HS, 1955 was a die hard pheasant hunter. He put me in the last time slot of the day, 4:30 pm. He would drive to my house pick me and a friend and my lab up, and we would road hunt for an hour. We had gunny sacks so we didn't get feathers in the trunk. :)
Only in SD.

As previously noted on here Sig is top of the line. Ive carried a P228 in 9mm for years. friends of mine poked fun that my 9mm was a 'ladies and pimp's ' handgun til i showed them what i run for ammo. Federal +P+ spiral cut hydrashock hollow points, they quit laughing when they saw that. Those have to be the nastiest rounds you can run through a gun. They will penetrate a vest.

Ive also got a 1911 in .45 and its a friggin hand cannon. but if you hit someone with a 45, you've pretty much completely stopped them

Took my .22 to school a few times in 8th grade to go shoot rats at the dump. Bolt and ammo in my pocket, rifle rode up front with the bus driver, then to the principal's office for the day (along with several others), we stopped and picked them up at end of school day, principal wished us good luck.

JohnT, if you are interested the latest issue of the" American Rifelman" has a writeup on the Sig M11A1(.40 cal.)

Correction:The Rifleman writeup is for the 9MM NOT .40 cal.

nope. you think im some sort of cop killer??

Then why the comment about the vest? There are all sorts of rounds that will go through some vests. Most any rifle round will go through a standard street vest. Why does the ability to penetrate a vest impress you so that you'd make a big thing out of it?
