Some schools had rifle clubs.I was in Maine in the 50s at a general store when some boys came out of a onc room school house with Winchester 94s.They hunted on the way home.I counted 8 rifles.Times have changed.A friend said his teacher came to school with a deer in the trunk and had the boys show her how to dress it out.I used to fix her TV in later years. She said she shot a deer every year sitting on her back porch.

My Drivers Ed teacher in HS, 1955 was a die hard pheasant hunter. He put me in the last time slot of the day, 4:30 pm. He would drive to my house pick me and a friend and my lab up, and we would road hunt for an hour. We had gunny sacks so we didn't get feathers in the trunk. :) Only in SD.

Took my .22 to school a few times in 8th grade to go shoot rats at the dump. Bolt and ammo in my pocket, rifle rode up front with the bus driver, then to the principal's office for the day (along with several others), we stopped and picked them up at end of school day, principal wished us good luck.
