I ran across a Super M Farmall with a serial number f 82 84 j Can anyone tell me what the letters mean? Thanks for any replys.

Doesn"t register. As I"m reading it, the Letter Series Tractor book indicates that Super M"s made at Farmall Plant numbered for 1952 from 501 to 12515. Super-M prefix was SM or SML. X-Codes indicate that thare was a X1J suffix that stood for gasoline engine, 7 mph gears, 5000 foot altitude. The casting code on large parts J meant 1940. None of this jibes with what you say.

The serial number has the letters SM in front of it, and I was just taking it for granted everyone would understand that part, sorry. I can't wait to get it home, I've never had one with a nine speed kit in it! I'm just curious how fast it goes!

I don't think the 9 speed increases high any, what it should do is give you a couple of speeds between normal fourth and fifth in that wide gap.
