O/T Arthritis, what homeopathic remedy do you use?

Prescription anti-inflammatories work fine for my arthritis but they upset my gut, and I've tried a bunch of them to no avail. I went back on 100 mg of Diclophenac a few days ago and my body felt young again but then the side effects hit so I went back off it yesterday. Today I can hardly climb up into the tractor cab. I've gotta put some dual hubs on and then the duals today and I just can't get motivated when the body, especially the knee is stiff and sore.

When planting starts next week, (hopefully), I'm going to have to be active whether I like it or not, but I don't want to take a prescrip med and feel half sick and have to go hide behind the tractor with a paper towel in my hand.

What do you guys and gals use that's non-prescription? In the past I've heard old timers talk about some of the remedies they have used but I wasn't afflicted at the time so it went in one ear and out the other. Now I'm listening better but not moving better. LOL Jim

I forgot to mention, Ibuprofen and Aleve aren't kind to me either. I have a touchy tummy for sure.

I can sympathize with you, my knees hurt with every step I take, but I haven't asked the doc for anything yet, I take more than I care to now. I just take couple aspirin or some other pain killer now and then.
I tried one "remedy" which was cover some white raisins with gin and let soak until the gin was gone then eat a spoonful or two every day. Didn't help my arthritis that I could tell, but it sure made the raisins taste good! Only other thing I do is a couple shots of Bourbon about supper time.

Lot's of exercise. I know, I get tired in a hurry, but that is what keeps me going. I took 800mg. of IBU 4 times a day for six to eight years while working, but had to give that up due to stomach bleeding. Took a year to heal from that. Still will take some if absolutely necessary. Took spinal injestions for a year, which helped some, but not enough to continue working. I am retired now, and rely basically on exercise and the heating pad occasionaly. I do take some vitamins recommended by Dr., but don't know if they help or not. I do know one thing for sure, I should get a job as a weather forcaster, as I think I am pretty good at it now.

My Grandfather everymorning befor Milking
2 tables spoons of coddliver oil in a small
glass of Chocolate milk.. He believed it helped
him, & he didn"t complain about the pain...

Whether it did ?? I don"t know, but a doctor
told him to try it...

I'm really 'forecasting the weather' today for sure. Snow on the ground and 70% chance of rain for Fri-Sat with a chance on Sun too.

Exercise does help a lot. If I can get motivated and moving the body feels better in fifteen minutes or so, but I have to keep moving, as you know. Sitting in the tractor for an extended period does NOT help and that's just what I'm going to be doing when it dries up.

My Grandmother had it really bad from 35 years old till she died at 90. I always knew her as a crippled person with bent fingers. She was violently sensitive to anti-inflammatories, meaning aspirin back in those days, but she did exercise while laying in bed. That's all she could do for it. I'm not anywhere near that bad but at 62 I'm not at all ready for the rocking chair. Maybe 30 years from now, but not now. LOL Jim

You may not believe this but a bee sting a day can/will help with Arthritis. Ya sounds funny but it has been proven to work. Me I can not use it but then I get stung and I have to take a pill for the sting

I've never been stung by a bee. I've been stung by wasps so many times that a new sting just pinches a little and then goes away. Maybe I'll have to go shake my neighbor's hives IF it ever warms up. LOL. Jim

Find a rheumatologist and ask them about Embrel(injection) or Remicade(infusion). It really helped me. It is expensive.

Doctor takes a power saw and cuts out my leg bones then using a Craftsman hammer [but sterilized ] hammers stainless knee joints into my chopped off leg bones. Then six months later decides my knee caps would work better in the front and goes back in and puts them in the front of my leg and not 60 degrees to the side. Wait I thought you said painful not homeowhatucallit. Sorry. Glucosomine didn't really cut it.

Wasp or bee the vimon (sp) is the same. Back when I worked with bees there was an article in a magazine we got that talked about how to use the bee stings in such a way it helped but that was a few decades back

Paul Harvey had a remidy that my mom and dad used. Take a box of rasins and soak them in gin for at least 7 days. Every morning eat 5 rasins (dad ate 7). Than when the jar went empty, drink the gin. Mom and dad had a couple jars in the fridge all the time.

Osteo Bi Flex with 5 loxin advanced care -- the big horse pills -- one per day, 120 count, or four months worth,$28.00 from Sams, I couldn't believe how fast and how good they work.

I have been drinking this for about 8 or 9 months now. It has made a world of difference for me. It calls for 2 ozs. a day so I drink an oz. in the morning and one at night. I have more movement in my shoulders now than I have had for years.

i been taking 2 tylenol arthritis strength twice a day [sometimes 3] and a aleve twice a day...i'm eat up with uncle arthur and it helps me get stuff done...not really worried about risks...surprises me every mornin i wake up.

Ever watch House? Thats me on a good day! No home
remedy has work good enough to control my pain,
except for apple cider vinegar, and that only worked
until my joints got real bad. Docs say by the time
Im 50 Ill be in a wheelchair, if the pain meds dont
kill me first. Im on 15 different pills a week, some
for this, some for that, but I dont take them all at
one time.

A big spoonful of honey in a cup of warm water and a couple (or spoonful of cinamon) capsuls of cinamon taken before breakfast helps me. Been wrenching all my life & my hands hurt if I don't use it. I missed it for a few days on a trip & they started hurting again, so it works for me. Maybe you should take it twice a day. Try it for a month before deciding as it may take a while if you have it bad.

I use Aleve and I take it in the morning before I
start working. Without it I"d be under the tractor
working and not be able to get back up for awhile.
It lasts all day.

2 Aleves, 2x per day
On bad days, 3 Aleves, 2x per day.

Rub on some Absorbine for horses.
Vet says its the same as Absorbine Jr, but a bigger dose, more concentrated. It works on my bad knees, the wife's bad shoulder, when needed.

HTH...don t. ....

Ask your Doc if you can try Mylexicam . I have Aurther from my neck down to my toes and it really gets ya moving . I had the same problem with my gut , the melexicam dont bother me at all . 5 back surgeries , a knee replacment and a hip replacment and still going but getting wore out !!

Aleve, 1 morning, 1 at supper. Doesn't cure it, I don't feel like I'm 30 again, but it does keep me going. My shoulders are what's affected most.

One thing I try to do is drink as much water as possible or remember to do so, more so in the colder months, when its warmer, I think I get enough, I can tell the difference when I do not and it does seem that the one ankle joint, that did not have the degenerated bone matter removed, can totally debilitate me, can't walk without a crutch if it acts up.

I know everyone is sort of wired differently so to speak, and or things effect people in various ways, so what works for one may not work for another, but dealing with arthritis is no fun. I'm not sure of the complete extent of it in my case, but do have it in both my ankles, right foot and one wrist.

About a week ago, after doing some hard work all that week, maybe it was because I was on my feet too long, who knows, but I had a job to do at a friends farm, splitting several cord of pine from storm damage, for outdoor fires, kindling shame to let it rot etc. + we were gathering up more sawlogs from the same storm and the day before, the pain was just festering in my foot, and going up my leg to the point it was getting unbearable, which is a new plateau of pain for me, and its hard to believe being in the mid forties LOL !

The only relief of this was to lay down, get back up in the morning its still there, and gets worse as the day goes on. At the request of my doctor, I keep a prescription of 800 MG Ibuprofen pills. I took 2 the morning we set out to go to that other farm, it stopped the pain in short order, and that was it, that foot is always sore to some degree, but I did not have to take any more, I keep em in the refrigerator, the ones I took were from '09, still potent. Have a new refill I have not even got to yet. I do not like taking any prescription drugs, more or less the chemical aspect of it I hate, there are times when you need them, but I avoid it until I just can't deal with it. I would rather use some alternative, cool you posted that question as I am just as interested LOL !

The one thing with all of this that intimidates me, is what happens further down the road, hopefully I can and people with this problem can manage, being able to walk and or other problems certainly come to mind, as well as figuring out how to cope or minimize the problem. I have some extra weight to carry and that also is part of this I will bet, I'll say maybe 50lbs, given my height and build, I have taken 15lbs off so far, and hope it continues, I have had less ankle trouble so far, so I know I have to keep up on this and get back to 200lbs or so, that is another non prescription solution, don't seem to have any other problems from the weight, BP is perfect, good report from the doctor, she agrees, the extra weight does put so much more stress on things.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid, CLA. It's made from sunflower oil. Works great on my neck. I take 4-5 1000 mg capsules a day. My gut won't let me take Aleve or even an asprin.

Forget the meds. 4 to 6 caps of good organic turmeric a day, lots of bottled water and get some absorbine horse ruin from the tractor supply. Fix ya right up.

Nodody said anything about concentrated black cherry juice, 2 tablespoons a day. I get it from Leelanaufruit.com by the 8-jug case. Expensive @ $32 a 2-quart jug, but it really helps my hands.

Golden raisins soaked in gin. Take a big spoonful at night.
When I first tried it, I couldn"t tell if it was working. After about a
week, I noticed I wasn"t waking up all hours during the night
because of pain, so I think I was doing the job. When I stop
hurting, I quit for a while and start back when I need to. Good
luck. Tommy

Thanks for the replies. We're going to town tomorrow and while we're there we're going to pick up some ingredients. It's well worth a try. I'll let you know. Might take awhile. Jim

I 2nd the rum soaked raisins. I took so much ibuprofen that my stomach won't take it anymore. An old guy at a farm sale told me to try the rum soaked raisins. I was desperate enough to try anything, so we went to town that evening and bought rum and raisins. I let them soak for 3 days and then take a salad forkful morning and night. I didn't really notice any difference until about the end of the week, my wife came out to the shop after work and said; You're standing up a lot straighter than you used to. I started paying attention, it didn't hurt to stand up, I could ride or drive for an hour and a half and get out of the car. I've been taking them since Nov 2011. Yes, it's hard to get out of bed in the morning, takes a hour or so to get moving, BUT, I'm still working at 61&1/2 and playing with my small farm. I have to be at work by 6am, and by 7 or 7:30pm, I'm tired as heck and stooped over some, but I'm still going. I keep them soaking in a sealtite container with the lid on until they are gone. I've even got our preacher taking them and he says they help him also. Don't knock it until you try it. Chris

I've heard a lot about that bee,s honey and cinamon mixture mentioned below. It helps a lot of other things also. It HAS to be real unprocessed bee,s honey though. Some of the "Wallmart" stuff isn't the pure stuff.

The Gin absolutely has to be JUNIPER BERRY Gin. Supposed to be Sultana grapes. I find Golden Raisins work as well.

I think playing sports for so long helped with the bp and so on, but I'll feel a lot better a tad bit lighter nonetheless !

I agree on the gin and raisians, have been using it for over a year with good results, after the first month.I really like raisians, I use the golden kind. The gin flavor is said to be juniper berries, and juniper is said to be high in antioxidents, the raisians, also are said to be high in antioxcidents. I never did like gin, and it resembles gum out carb cleaner to me. I grit my teeth and take a big tablespoon of the stuff every day, only because it works!
