My neighbour died back in January and his farm was sold yesterday at a public auction. Real good grazing and cropping loam ground in Co.Armagh, Northern Ireland.....45 acres for £500,000....prices are back a bit and bidders are scarce. The farm sold to a guy who had worked for British Sugar in South Africa all his life and has now settled near by.......Must be money in sugar???????

And a Rand must be about 15P. How much is still in his mattress?
First time I was in UK was in the bad old days of the coal miner's strike. A pound sterling was one dollar fifteen cents. Sometimes less. A one pound Yorkie bar was 50P.... a pint in any pub was about 60P. Ale, zider and chocolate bars... and an endless stream of totally cute birds who'd say 'oooooohhh... you ave an accent! You're an American chap aren't youuuuu?????? oooooooooo.... if I wasn't so young at the time, and wanted to survive into middle age... what a way to go!!!!!

That"s a bit more than 14K per acre. High for here, but not unheard of. But not a lot of farms get sold around here. Some of this land has been in the same families for 150 years.
