I am trying to figure how much corn I need to plant a one acre plot. I use medium rounds. I assumed an acre at approximately 209 x 209. I plan to plant at 8" o.c. in 26" rows. I knocked off a couple of inches to make up for variations in my driving; so I used 24" for figuring. Okay:
209 feet x 12" divided by 8" = approximately 310 seed per row. 209 feet divided by 24" = 100 rows + or -. That gives 310 x 100 rows = 31000 population/acre. I counted out approximately 70 seeds per ounce x 16 ounces = 1120 seeds/pound. 31000 divided by 1120 = approximately 28 pounds. Make sense?
