Seed Population: Check my Math

I am trying to figure how much corn I need to plant a one acre plot. I use medium rounds. I assumed an acre at approximately 209 x 209. I plan to plant at 8" o.c. in 26" rows. I knocked off a couple of inches to make up for variations in my driving; so I used 24" for figuring. Okay:

209 feet x 12" divided by 8" = approximately 310 seed per row. 209 feet divided by 24" = 100 rows + or -. That gives 310 x 100 rows = 31000 population/acre. I counted out approximately 70 seeds per ounce x 16 ounces = 1120 seeds/pound. 31000 divided by 1120 = approximately 28 pounds. Make sense?

80000 seeds in a bag of seed corn nowadays. 80000 divided by 31000 = 2.58 acres per bag of seed. So a 50# bag divided by 2.58 = 19.38 pounds per acre. Course you can't buy seed by the pound here only by the bag.

Thanks. I can buy seed by the pound (food plot source) and that was the other thing I was trying to figure. Last year--this is non-RR--a bag was around $100.00 or $2.95 by the pound. I'd save around 20 bucks this year, based on planting around 20#s, not be worried about running out and have seed for next year.

My Non RR corn with Bt tech this year is 185 a bag. RR corn is 50 dollars more. This is with my discount from list. You must be buying open pollinated corn or something for that price.
