vinyl siding - took a door out - filling in reverse??

I had to move a door from one side to another on a garage I own. The door was within 2 feet from the corner of the building and I just removed that short amount of siding to the right so I can go all the way to the corner without any additional splices. To the left I removed every other piece of siding. Now the new siding will go entirely across the opening(about 1/2 way across the garage) and every other piece will be staggered and look perfect. My question is siding normally is put on from the bottom to the top, but I have staggers every other piece to the left and when I reach the siding at the top of the original door how do I nail the piece below it and/or attach the existing piece. Any ideas on how to work with this situation would be appreciated. Thank you.

Andy, you need a zip tool to hook the top piece to the bottom piece. your siding supply company has them, proly cost less than $5.00.
the siding is started at the bottom. Chuck

Also, when re-nailing the siding panels, don't pull up tight on the panels. Use the old nail holes as a guide. You don't need to nail in the same holes. You just need to see the old holes through the slots in the siding panel. If you pull up on the panels as if new installation, you'll have problems.

You start at the bottom. I did my mini barn in 2011 from left over scrap pieces. The starting strips need to be level. Hal

I bought siding for the back side of a garage from Lowes, they had the zip tool cheap too.

Yup, you just flex the upper piece so you can get in and nail the last replacement piece. Then you use the zip tool to snap the lip of the upper piece over the replacement piece.

Sure as heck is a lot easier than dealing with actual clapboards.

Andy, I forgot to mention that when you nail vinyl siding you don't nail it tight, you nail it loose so the panel will side back and forth easily and try to keep the nails near the center of the slot. Good luck with your door, Chuck

You also might want to be careful and not get to rough with the siding. some siding gets brittle and will crack easily. with age,
