Good day turkey hunting last Friday in Ohio

We went out Friday morning and there were birds making all kinds of noise around us. The better half and I set up and I called one in and it was all over for him she shot him at 15 yards. We got him tagged and all the other birds quiet talking so we moved down the field a few hundred yards and set up. I started callign and about 40 minutes later they started answering. I called in four and shot mine at 8ft was an awesome hunt.. They weren't huge but the farmer asked us to come get rid of some so I cant complain. We got done early enough it left me time to work on tractors and get some primer on our B, And mock up the weight bracket on my G..

I'm in MO, my family is in NW OH. We go pheasant hunting in the fall out by Defiance. Seems like the turkey population is on the rise.

WOW!!! can you plz give me some tips!!! I have been going for the past couple weeks.... I can get 50yrd from the tree when he is on the roost. how much do you call? what calls you use?

Ya and that was with an old Ithaca with full choke and only a 2- 3/4 high brass 4 shot shell.. I couldn't imagine what a 3 1/2 would have done

The only call I use is a Primos power Crystal. Its a synthetic slate call and works great. I have box call I carry but done use much.. I also have a push button helper but only use that is they are close and cant use the slate call.. I dont go out and find them in the roost. I would say you are getting way to close for their comfort level. We go out right when dawn is braking and they are coming out. Once we hear them I start calling. once they answer we get set up usually in a brier patch or somewhere uncomfortable. I once they answer I will hit them once or twice to get their attention then I try to limit my calls. If you know they are heading your way they all ready ave you pinpointed and don't need a lot of coaxing. I was always harped to never over-call so I probably call less than most people. Once you hear him coming you are good to go. I only use one decoy and its a cheap 5$ gander mountain one but they always walk right to it. The bird I shot was calling and i stopped because I knew he was coming to me. After about 15 min-20 min I called again and he gobbled less than 10 yards behind me and gave me a heart attack its the loudest thing ive ever heard lol. I didn't here him walk in or see him that why I was startled. I would definitely say you are getting too close to the roost and scaring them. Get set up 200 yards away and call as soon as they get out..
